Rob Falkner and Matthew Braun (top 2 in AS on day 1) are two of the best autocross drivers in the country. Until and unless some top drivers enter AS in the Evo and the STi, it will be hard to determine the true Autocross potential of these two cars.

One thing is for sure - Tomorrow's results will be a lot more meaningful.

However, he is allowed an aftermarket cat-back exhaust and a drop in filter (ex. K&N).
Springs cannot be changed in Stock. Struts can be upgraded substantially, but must retain the same attachment points as the stock struts, with no more than two separate external adjustment controls. Electronically controlled shocks wouldn't be allowed on an Evo. Camber (and toe) are unlimited, but only by use of standard factory adjustments. Lowering the car is not illegal at all, it just needs to be done within the rules -- for instance, going to lower profile tires lowers the car. My car is lowered 3/10 of an inch in autoX trim, based on tires alone. Cat-back exhaust and drop-in filter are legal. One thing you left out -- the front sway bar can be upgraded, substituted, or even removed.

I've talked to Andrew a couple of times at the nearby CenDiv autox's. From what I remember he is using a Magnaflow axleback exhaust, Hoosier autox tires and aftermarket shocks and struts (I forget the brand).

At the last Autox in Toledo he lifted one of his rear tires in every corner. And the car had bodyroll issues. He said he wasn't running that good that particular day.

I've seen him run a couple of different times in that car. Honestly, he was never very fast compared to the C4 Vettes in even divisional events so unless he gained a whole lot of speed in the last month, rain probably played a big factor. When I've seen him run he lifts the inside rear tire WAY up in the air.

6th place is Dave Bruener, a local guy I know in an STi, and he's had the STi all of a month and done one autocross in it. His biggest accomplishment with it thus far is running a 13.04 in the 1/4 (stock class legal catback exhaust was the only mod). He's a very good driver, but some of the C4 Vettes behind him are very well developed cars with very experienced drivers. I imagine the top couple guys (Braun and Falkner) had their rain tires with them, maybe the other guys didn't, and they are unbelievably good drivers on top of it.

I think even if it's completely dry today those guys can still hang onto trophy positions.

In a related note, an Evo was 2nd in ESP. I'm sure the ESP guys are pissed.

Apparently, the rain came down so hard at the end of the day that many did not get a 3rd run in. I guess they're going to give make-up runs today.

WRT the Konis, I'm wondering if Andrew is the mystery Evo owner in this thread:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=37733

WRT the front sway bar, I just put on that Cusco adjustable bracket today and will try it out at our Fed Ex Field event this weekend. I set it for one notch over stock (116% of stock stiffness). The stiffer setting will no doubt make the car want to push, but I should be able to counter that with tire pressure adjustments. Hopefully it will cut down on the body roll some.

I was tempted to go for the next notch (133%), but I figure baby steps are the way to go right now...

Andrew wound up in 9th, just out of the trophies. The ESP results still haven't been posted.

SS had 0.014 seconds separating the top 3. Now that's close!!!

Konis

Wish he could have held on a little higher in the standings. Still a good job seeing the competition.

About the struts:
Koni e-mailed me this morning about struts. They can build a strut with Koni internals from stock struts, $390 single adj., $530 double adj.-per corner. Now if I only had $2200 laying to put into struts.
Of course, your car is on jackstands for awhile or you need a donor strut too.

And we'll get to explore which is faster... Titanium catback and upgraded front sway bar, or a completely stock Evo on Hoosiers. Although I like the way you're going. Your upgrades will still be there a year from now -- I can't say the same.

I just got back from Topeka, My great co driver Bret Norgaard was the fastest esp car on Friday in my red evo. He just amost made up the .6 sec time difference from Wed, but was out by only .16secs. ALL 5 runs were in the dry. I choked but had fun, more info and pics later.

Thanks,

Rick

Nice job in ESP by your co-driver. I wonder if those ESP guys are upset? Maybe I should read the sccaforums to see the fallout of nationals.

Did you guys see the latest results?

http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/na...roups/esp.html

An Evo is 2nd?!?! Now at least I know that the car is capable of competing against the likes of Madarash. That is really impressive!

SS RX7 r2: Can you let us know what wall he has done to the car? I see he was on Kumhos too. That's surprising. I would expect it would need Hoosiers.
