I wonder if it has anything to do with the rain they got in Topeka today...

AS looks wet from the photos posted on the SCCA's web site. However he is only third behind a couple of good drivers. Ironically, the STi Subys are down farther in the results. AWD must not have helped them as much. His run scores dropped on the second and then went up on the third, and those car numbers around him did the same-could have been a downpour?!?
If it dries out tomorrow, the north course is more technical so maybe he can pull it out.

But you would think the STi's would be higher up too.

I think this pic sums up today's runs quite nicely...

doesnt seem to sum anything up, looks perfectly sunny and dry out to me and possibly this porsche with the top down?
I have not met him, but he recently purchased a Mitsu dealership in MI. I know an autocrosser from KY who has known him for years and said he moved into an Evo after having anther brand for years. Couldn't be cruising around in the other brand...
From what I have heard, the Evo is stock except for tires and some adj. Koni shocks. I want to find out about those Konis!

I believe he is from the saginaw region and his Mitsu dealer, that he owns, is called "Showcase Mitsubishi". From what I hear, he's pretty good. If you look up the "Central Division" Solo II divisional races, he's won almost every event.
I found some results from the CENDIV site and he looks to have improved as the year went on. Lost to a vette a couple of times, but his times are competetive in SS. He might have been learning the car.

I don't think adjustable shocks are legal in A-Stock. The most he could have done is to change the springs and/or struts to a stiffer, non-adjustable combination that is similiar in shape and size to their stock counterparts. You are also allowed 2", max, of negative camber and that's if your car is capable of adjustment from the factory settings. I was able to get 1.5" out of mine. Also lowering your car is a big no,no. However, he is allowed an aftermarket cat-back exhaust and a drop in filter (ex. K&N).
Got the word from one of the lead competitors that it was raining hard today, in fact ESP was limited to two runs at the end of day. I unfortunately could not reach Andy directly. I'm guessing many of the guys did not have rain tires, in which case, they were toast. I wish Andy the best of luck but could be real tough if it's dry tomorrow, which I was told it appeared it would be.
I think holding onto a trophy this year would be an accomplishment given the limited development time with the car but we'll see how things go, hope I'm wrong. In which case, there may be another Evo contending next season. Road racing this year but may have to consider going back to solo.
BTW, adjustable shocks are allowed in Stock. You cannot have it adjustable in perch height, must be at stock height w/ the stock springs. You can have adjustment in rebound and compression. The problem is finding a set for the Evo that is not one of these coilover kits w/ springs and adjustable perch, thus the Koni custom build option.
