What's high speed autocross? More like a time trial?

And I definitely agree driver > car.

Yes it is more like a time trial. It is done on race tracks not parking lots. There are no cones you use the whole course and you go as fast as you can. I race at Blackhawk farms raceway, gingerman in michigan, and in joliet autobhan.

Here's the list of SCCA classes the Evo goes in and what the dominant car is:

AS: S2K
STU: Evo/STi
BSP: Evo
SM: Evo
FP: Evo
XP: Those guys with the pirate MR2
EM: ?? No one has ever build an EM Evo as far as I know.

As far as which Evo you want, the IX got a little more turbo, and the RS is the lightest IX. QED. Definitely stay away from the 03-04 - no front LSD.

Oh yeah, that thing too. Either way, I don't see an Evo getting light enough to compete there.

go for the EVO MR. if you're keeping it stock or close to it, you should have ZERO reliability issues. I'm at 119,XXX miles on my 06 MR and i autocross every chance i get. my first autocross was at 1k miles while the temp tag was still in the window. I've drag raced it, road raced it, autocrossed it, and basically driven it like i stole it every time i've gotten behind the wheel since i bought it with no problems other than a few light bulbs burning out.

the MR is the best of the bunch. in tests the MR just about always runs faster in autocross and road courses than the other two. motortrend did this, so has best motoring. the MR's the best looking of the bunch too IMHO. if you have the money, go for the 06 MR. the 05 MR is good too, but it's down on power, and just not as fast as the IX's. the IX's have the front and rear LSD's and the ACD, along with the 05's but like i said, the 06's are just faster.

good luck
