Autocross Classing question

I was put in SM because i had carbon fiber body panels (hood/trunk), but i took those off. My remaining mods are ACT HDSS clutch, Streetlite Flywheel, Spark Tech COP, K&N drop in, HKS Carbon Ti catback, Buddy Club Racing spec coilovers, 255/40/17 Nitto NT05's. there are a couple other things, but those are the only ones that would likely matter. Can anyone tell me based on those mods what class i'm supposed to be in? I've been running in STU since i took the carbon off, but i'm not sure if i'm supposed to be there or not.

+1 what he said. Also I assume you're tuned, which also puts you into BSP if the tune includes boost changes.

BSP allows you to do more stuff though... rcomps, intercooler, intercooler piping, up the boost, etc.

I think your engine damper is also not STU legal...

no, i'm not tuned. so i should be in BSP or SM? is it possible to be legal for more than one class? if so, how do you decide where to run?

You can always move up a class.

The Evo progression is basically:
AS -> STU -> BSP -> SM -> XP/FP

STU is the only class that's limited to street tires (and only 245 wide ones).

Depending on where you run, there might be a street tire PAX class (so you'd be T-BSP or T-SM) where you compete with other cars that would normally need r-comps, but they're on street tires.

Now, let's say your car is not fully built for SM, so you'd be in BSP... but BSP has noone else in it. That's no fun, so you might want to run SM, even though you're not fully prepped, just to have some competition (I've done this).

Download a copy of the rule book. It's your best friend. Like these guys said if you want to be competitive, you might look into whether your region has a street tire indexed class. Mine (SFR) has two: T1-for stock and T2-for SP/SM. On top of that, if you're new, your region might actually have a Novice indexed class, like mine.

More of a question for the BSP guys here... Isn't it illegal to modify the body in BSP? I see from the signature he has a JDM rear bumper and a CF Ralliart lip. I'd assume that would bump you into SM, correct me if I'm wrong. I've also read somewhere that the modification necessary to make the JDM rear fit might actually bump you into FP/XP, not sure on that though. I'm a newb at this too.

Oh, and I forgot to add: If it doesn't explicitly say that you CAN do something, it most likely means you CAN'T.

yeah the jdm rear bumper likely puts you in XP unless you figure out a way to not go beyond the SM allowances with the rear bumper beam. I believe you HAVE to run a restrictor upstream the turbo to be legal in FP.

I haven't seen a ralliart cf lip, but assuming it doesn't stick out farther then the factory lip (normal or SE) and it's not lighter then the factory lip you could *probably* pull it off in BSP. If it's bigger or lighter then stock then it's SM or XP.

well luckily for me, no matter what class they put me in, my times are always fast enough to win in SM, BSP, or STU lol. XP i'm usually right there as far as times, but those guys run r-comps to my street tires. but, with the new rules i wouldn't have to worry about that anyway.

Where is the clutch rule for STU, i don't see it? I am going to be installing a spec twin since my stocker is shot. I didn't realize it would bump me a class though.

Clutch modification isn't mentioned until Street Prepared, so that means you can't do it in STU. Street Touring allows all the modifications of the stock class, plus any mentioned in the "Street Touring" section. Following that logic, if it isn't listed, you can't modify it.
