Speak your mind...!

For all you RTA junkies. Redline Time Attack (RTA) is in the process for rule changes for the 2010 season. Chime in and see if you can make a differance...

I've been reading about the licensing stuff and since I only have one track day ever under my belt (the RTA Willow Springs event this year) I've decided to skip the Fontana event and start working with NASA on HPDE days...

Im assuming that someone with a NASA TT license would meet RTA standards, but if someone has enough time with the HPDEs (like HPDE3 or 4) will they be considered "good enough" for Redline?

Also, are Saturday HPDE days at Redline events going away now? Maybe I missed that piece If they are around, can you do a few of those and be considered fit for the TA? How will they know, are they actually going to have people paying attention to you?

I'm sure RTA will be running Saturday as HPDE option in the future. It does bring more exposure to them...

You don't need any licensing to run their lower classes (Stock, Street or Mod) but it is strongly recommended. No one is watching over you, but you do make other feel safer on the track when you have some experience. It's kinda of unspoken and un-policed, but recommended.

Just an example, last year NJMP we had a group of drifting ninjas attend time attack and run track for the very first time, one blew a motor and layed oil down on the fast line at the track (the whole track), delaying time attack by 2 hours and Formula Mazda series

Yeah, I've been watching the rules a bit. It's nice they open them up for suggestions, but it always turns into a whining contest. People just whine that a certain change will make their car illegal or might slow them down. Then turn around and claim another rule change is needed to slow down someone else that is faster.
Bottom line is that it's still a new series and not many have built a car to the 'full extent of the rules'. Hopefully the dust will settle with some positive changes!

As for the licensing, imo it's LONG overdue. Practice sessions at RTA are downright scary with some of the skillsets out there.

Look for a separate section of our rules, that describes our licensing program in detail.

We'll accept existing licenses and we'll accept proof of participation from other sanctioning bodies.

This is going to be a HUGE step for us to take, but it is a necessary one at this point.

Nik, have you considered grandfathering those that have ran with RTA for a season such as myself...

I've dug through all the pages of 'suggestions' as of this morning. There should be some grandfathering, but don't everything of course. That's all tentative though.

I am sure we will add a section that explains our position on grandfathering. Just not sure what the specifics will entail.

I also agree that it's very good that RTA opens up their rules up for discussions

No changes to tires for now from what I've read. So NT01 and R888 will be the biggies.
