Which Cat-Back Exhaust for Modded Track Evo…

Sorry if this is not posted in the right section.
Not sure if EvoM.net has a Mototsports discussion area.

.

I have a 2003 Evo 8 that I’ve been modding and building up for the last year.
It is a daily driver and weekend track car with a conservative tune and about 420whp on pump gas.

Some of my mods include: FP Red, 272 cams, 950 injectors, AMS FMIC, Injen intake, Perrin cat, Borla cat back, CBRD Rad, Mocal oil cooler, springs/retainers/head studs, StopTech BBK, coilovers, sways, splitter, diffuser, tune, etc.

I want to . . . Replace and switch-out my Borla cat back exhaust.

It doesn’t fit well under the rear diffuser. I’d like to get something with a round muffler that would fit better and give me better performance.

Any track guys out there or qualified individuals that give me any suggestions ?

Are those cheapies on ebay a waste of money?

Most of the bang-for-your-buck track exhausts end at Buschur; they have an outstanding lightweight exhaust selection, though I believe the mufflers are not round, but more oval. AMS has a catback for the track specifically for a JDM rear though its not cheap.

Why not just run a cutout for the track? Thats your best option for performance.

Either a round or smallish muffler would work best and not interfere with the rear diffuser. My Borla muffler is a fair sized oval style.

Which Buscher is the preferred setup?

Not so sure that I want to run a cutout.

Why not? Do a electric cutout, hit the switch an its quite again better that a catback if you ask me. No tickets if you have to do any street driving with it off the track. Also you can go sleeper mode right up to the line at the track. my friend does it all the time, people will even ask if he wants to bet.

you could run a cutout, but you would need to check track regulations for the area..Like Thunder hill has a 103 DB limit.

Now when you say ebay and stainless in the same sentence, do you mean "real" stainless, with actual nickle and chromium? Or just that cheap crap metal they call stainless in many of the Chinese plants?

I run a TurboXS cat back on my track car.

You should make sure the tracks you are racing at do not have a dB limit before you decide.

The Turboxs is stainless, fits nicely, fairly inexpensive(not the cheapest but cheap and from a company i trust)

I wouldn't do a cut out since it is a track car unless you are going to route it out the side. The cutouts that dump right under the car can cause excess heat and take a toll on the rubber in the rear of the car which are already getting bombarded with heat from the brakes.

Well if you really want it for track only, and theres no db limit just dump out the front bumper. No cat-back needed just a downpipe stright out the side of the bumper.

Tracks often still have noise limits.
