ALMS GT2 race - Controversial ending
ALMS GT2 race - Controversial ending
I was reading about this earlier. I then found this clip on another forum. Havent seen the entire race yet, but this part of it is such a great battle. Unfortunate that it had a controversial ending. Side note, the announcer at the end who stumbled on his words was a really funny part.

Now those GT2 teams have till Sebring to prepare for the rematch! Should be a strong season next year in GT2. We should go to the Mid Ohio ALMS event to see the pros race there. I am hoping to run a NASA regional race at mid Ohio next year to get prepared for the 2011 NASA Championship.
Haha, ya good ol Berg' he doesn't put up with anybody's crap, very agressive racer. He lost at sebring a couple years before that to Melo in the Ferrari by a nose. Same close battle, but Melo rubbed him and caused him to slow. I think he was thinking of that moment when he put the Vette into the wall.

He was a douche in interviews after the race. Basically said "I wanted to win so I did what I had to". Feels he was justified because of a little prior rubbing...
WOW, amazing clip. It was pretty predictable that Magnussen was going to try to drop kick Bergmeister at T11, given that the officials wiped out his pass using the pit exit lane. Sports car racing is a very dangerous sport, but when you are in the heat of the battle and a win is a few meters away you do whatever it takes to cross the finish line first. Few racers out there would have backed out in Bergmeister's situation, when you are probably about to loose a race because of a questionable move.
Luckly everyone was ok and no one was seriously injured as a result of the incident, I'm sure ALMS officials will take pertinent actions to try to "prevent" premeditated incidents like that from happening in the future.

That was so intense. I probably would have done the same thing, one stretch left knowing the guy behind me just tried to send me off the track.... I would have led him to the wall too!
I would not have been cocky after though. racing is racing although i probably would not have tried to find Magnussen in the pits to shake is hand either... lol

You have to have a serious fire inside to compete at their level. The Corvette should have known that would happen after the bump. He lost the race because he could not get along side in the last corner for a drag race to the finish. Instead he bumped the Porsche and nobody should hand that move a graceful/fair try for the win.

if you watch the last few seconds, the Flying Lizard Porsche didnt turn INTO the Vette. it shows from both angles he kept his line straight AND be applied the brakes when the Vette began to spin. its unfortunate about Team Vette, and that was a dirty little tactic using the PIT OUT lane to pass. intense all the way to the end. im sure the officials will sort it out.
