Helmet question
those damn Hans device cost a fortune. And if you get a cheaper version/ non CF/ they are actually heavy. Long race day and you know what im talking about . Also its a pain to put them on or take them off. Even if you dont disconnect them from the helmet. Also the fixed stripes ones are no good by any means.

SA is NOT expensive. Look around. For example there are at least three SA2005 helmets under $150 here:

Yes, HANS devices are expensive but they *really* do an excellent job at reducing neck injuries which a helmet does nothing for.
The major differences between an SA and M rated helmet is the SA is rated for roll-bar impacts while an M is not. And that's a big difference for cars with cages. The other major difference is SA has a fire rating [on the liner material] while M does not. Bikers don't generally have problems with fires in crashes.
M helmets also may have a wider opening for a wider angle of vision that is not required in an SA helmet. So some SA helmets might not be street legal.
Now it's *possible* that an M helmet just might pass the roll bar test, but it's not been tested for that and is not certified for that use.
So do what your specific sanctioning bodies specify. Nobody will deny the use of a current (within the last ten years) SA helmet for auto racing or track events while some may deny M-rated helmets.
30 years ago any Snell-rated helmet was acceptable in most all events. Fortunately we've learned a bit more about safety in that same time period.
