im seriously thinking about selling my evo and going back to spec miata.. i love club racing. im not sure what to do. i love a high power car but I would like to move up through the ranks and im not sure if thats going to happen in TT..
any advice/experience out there.

That's a difficult question for anyone other than yourself to answer. Only you know whether TT is enough to satisfy you, or whether you'd be more satisfied and willing to accept the additional risk of wheel-to-wheel racing. And as far as which car to use e.g. Evo for ST, or Spec Miata, only you know what your budget is and what level of risk, including potential total loss of car, you are willing to tolerate.
For sure, the Spec Miata will be significantly cheaper to run than the Evo e.g. 14/15" rims and tires instead of 17/18", lighter car means less wear on tires, brake pads etc. Body panel/shell/parts replacements also cheaper for the SM, and the Evo is a thirsty sucker as far as fuel goes too.
I've done a few HPDE track days in my Evo, and very quickly realized that it's quite an expensive car to run, even just for fun track days and when considering normal wear items i.e. tires, brake pads, fuel etc. While I'd love to have a fully built dedicated Evo track car, I think for me something like a Spec E30 (and keeping the Evo as a fun DD) is a much more practical solution, especially since I don't have much road course track experience. That way, even if I total the car, I'd only be out $10k vs. say $30k for a comparably prepared Evo.

i think i may keep the evo.. I can't afford it but hell its a better car. TT is alot of fun but I'm not on the track just to drive. I'm earning experience before I go to TRG which is way over my head right now
Think again if your Evo is still a street car and could be easily sold. Spec Miata racing is extreme and affordable. Repairs are not hard with cheap parts and you can win MONEY in spec Miata. If you decide racing is not what you want then the Miata you bought is an easy car to sell later.
We've gone over this so many times. Spec Miata is NOT a cheap class. Anyone who knows anyone in the series understands that to run in the top 8 say of a 20+ field regionally takes 10k+ in mods from just a caged running chassis - up front. Including the only spec approved aftermarket engine which they charge $7000+ options for. Then you need to add all the suspension tweeks and another $5k for all those to run in the top say 15 at Nats. And then you don't even get into the setup with 85% of the field out there has 10 years+ on us (you) already for THAT car, at THAT track.
All of us that are running TT/ST are regular broke guys like you, some of em even still owe but having the time of our lives and smoking the competition.

yea im glad my car is completely paid off and its a clean title car.. Only problem is that it is completely gutted, there is no going back unfortunately. I'll keep the evo and just go to a few events a year.. I'm more focused on school right now anyways

If that's the case i'd get the cage and seat(s) installed now, then you'll get to have safe seat time whenever you want, and build the car up as you get money....wait that sounds familiar

You will always want to have a "better" car so there is your answer.
If you have a racer spirit, then there is always something better out there or should be better. LOL

Don't do it! I sold my evo and bought a miata and am starting to regret it.
Once the miata is fully track prepped and I do a few lap days I'll let you know if I fully regret it.
That is... unless I unload it and buy a track prepped evo

umm i just got news that completely changed my life. I've been building this car for well over 2 years.. I'm 19 and make $9 an hour. I work 10-12 hour days to build this car 6 and sometimes 7 days a week..
Well chassis shop just called me.. The chassis failed NASA and SCCA tech.. I've payed well over $4,000 for this shop to build me a good race cage. The techs said that it will not pass tech and because the guys at the chassis shop cut out the factory seat bracing and they are all missing a NASA certification. I can't get my money back and now I'm stuck with a rolling chassis. I'm having a complete breakdown. I don't know what to do.

okay, trying to work things out. Apparently the NASA techs just told me that there is a serious miscommunication here. I'm trying to work things out but apparently the tech at the shop is confused on some rules

As far as similiar miata is concerned, you should look into spec racer ford instead. You can buy a $15-20k car and run up front in any national field.
