if your serious about tracking an evo X MR, GET OFF THIS FORUM! theres a much better one i use and several other x MR owners who track our cars. i cant mention its name here. and you can save a lot of money with a setrab cooler and stock SSTF. its what getrag runs on their car that ran 24hrs at nurburgring, thats who builds this transmission. when i get bored ill come on here and sometimes ill tell others to ignore the 8/9 owners who have nothing positive to say about the x. sorry to sound like a troll, i just cant stand all the hate, this forum is good for info if you weed thru the crap

I even beat my own car up by running race rubber. Simply driving out of the pits you can hear every little piece of sand hit the bottom and side of the car.

Also it takes less money to make the EVO9 quick. Really all you need is exhaust and tune and you've got a darn quick car.

Sure the 10s are just as capable but you pretty much have to change everything other than the motor to hang with a nearly stock 9.

my personal opinion is that, the IX is the benchmark, but the X has proven to be a seemingly more capable platform, as AMS/Gates have broken all the records of their old VIII TA car. Granted ,they put more engineering into these X platforms, but it seems that they are truly superior. Now, with that in mind, I'd still rather keep my IX and make it the track car simply because I'm not AMS/Gates, and don't need the fastest car out there, the IX is more affordable to make a track car, so it's just a personal preference, same as the STI/EVO arguments that never end.

Ouch that hurt. But we all feel how we feel I guess. Maybe 10s are faster in your neck of the woods but I haven't seen any bolt on 10s hang with bolt on 9s especially on the big track.

Everyone likes to bring up gates but he has completely eliminated the factory diffs, gutted the car, and added ludicrous power. He has more money than I want to know invested in that car.

Lets table the general 9 vs 10 and maintain focus on the OPs question.

Modded X MR vs Modded 9

maybe you havent seen Light modded X's vs the light modded IX's on track. They hang all right together Basically is a driver match up.
/light modded for me is :
-exhaust
-airfilter or intake
- tune
- maybe some suspension mods/

You statement is just simply not true. which i quoted out. Other then that i would not try to make a SSt equipped car as a track car yet. So as its stands today i would go for a Ct9A chassis car. I prefer the IX RS

my friend has a 9, he made me decide on raybestos st43 brake pads! he says he can't brake with his car the way i do. his driving position is better and the car has a bit less body roll, but other wise my x has him beat. id probably get a 9 too, but i wanna keep the SST. i know everyone *****es about the SST, but development has come a long way. and i think its sad how everyone compares their dyno numbers like they have something lacking to make up for......

i hear you, But the SS-T alone is too much money to fix.
So if you will do racing that is one BIG thing you need to consider.
That is why i say to go for a IX RS. If you would have a X GSR i would say keep it, and work on that. Because the money you probably will loose on the trade , it just not worth to get the IX. But with the SS-T you might be better off with the loss, and still come out better a long run.

the SST is pretty reliable, minus the people that need XXX WHP. i dont know how many times ive spun around at the track with the wheels spinning backwards while in drive. more and more racers are slowly switching to automated gearboxes like the SST because of reliability. with a manual box overrevs are more common and things like dogrings need to be replaced a lot. the 5 spd is tried and true technology thou, also very simple in comparison. that part i like

I'd LOVE to try an Evo X MR on track. I say if the transmission have been made reliable enough with aftermarket coolers and/or upgraded clutches, stick with it. I also want to feel what an SAYC car feels like vs. my AYC car.
