Track Car Considerations ... Those with EvoX / Evo9 Experience Chime in
First .. thanks all for taking the time to chime in and provide input ..
Here is the dilemma ... I have an Evolution X MR, which I bought when I was married and was convinced I was done tracking. Enter, divorce, and now I want to get back in it. So, here is the debacle .. do I keep the EvoX, beef up the tranny with SSP/AMS gear, and track it, or do I sell it, and pick up a good Evo 9 and track it.
I had an Evo 8 that I tracked and loved, and would love to get back to that, but I hate to ditch the EvoX, as I really like the layout better.
As for mods .. I would do full suspension, and light power mods ...
Thanks all.

I love how the Japanese drivers are always laughing at something...
I think that Ryan Gates has proven that the X is as good as-if not better- than the IX platform.

I wouldn't want a newer car for a track car. Reason being track cars get hammered with debris. The first track event I took my 9 too I lost a windshield and then entire front of the car was peppered with marks from chunk of rubber and whatever else was flung or dropped on track. I even beat my own car up by running race rubber. Simply driving out of the pits you can hear every little piece of sand hit the bottom and side of the car.
Also it takes less money to make the EVO9 quick. Really all you need is exhaust and tune and you've got a darn quick car.
Sure the 10s are just as capable but you pretty much have to change everything other than the motor to hang with a nearly stock 9.

^ Hmm. . . I was thinking just the opposite. Coilovers, tires, BPU, reflash - I think a X can hang with a IX. Maybe not the X MR - but a manual one. Granted, I have no real world back to back testing - just the little bit I've read and from what I've seen of my friend's X on the track . . .
But to the OP - first of all, sorry to hear about the circumstances. If you want a dual purpose DD/Track car - regardless you probably should ditch the X MR. You can then buy a base X or a cheaper IX and have some modding $$ left over
