EVO X fuel starvation
the blitz surge tank looks like an intake manifold
the surge tanks we use are not "in tank" like, say, an F1 car, but they are a seperate tank. you have the stock sending unit feed into the side of the surge tank, and the upper side of the surge tank returns back into the orginal fuel tank return. the bottom of the surge tank goes to the primary fuel pump, and the return from the fuel pressure regulator goes into the top or side of the surge tank (depends on how they have the ports located). there are quite a few fuel lines, and usually around a 1L to 1 gal tank.

here is an example of one in my 8: keep in mind this is a race car, so i didn't even try to hide it, or make it look like a street car... but the kits for the X's weve installed were stealth and worked with the stock tank.
Solution found, however it was not what I was expecting.

While I am not too concerned about the legality of this set up for street use, it seems a bit overkill with an additional pump.
What do you think may be the downside of installing this?

a surge tank requires a second pump. the first pump is only used to fill the surge tank up to the top, then it overflows back into the main tank. it doesn't even provide any fuel pressure. the second pump is what is used to supply the engine. it uses the surge tank for its supply. the surge tank is tall and skinny so if your pulling Gees it wont starve the pickup... and if the first pump does starve, the surge tank is semi-large so the second pump can continue to use the fuel in the surge tank until the first pump gets fuel again.
Map Performance has a bolt-on type specifically for the 10...

agreed. i could run my 8 down to below a 1/4 of a tank before i got any starvation. although it only happened once to me, and i was on street tires (slicks could certainly make the problem worse). when i put sticky tires on, i was used to running with near a full tank and never had an issue again.
and for evo X people, we are putting together a surge tank kit that we will be selling for the track rats and others who need a higher volume fuel system. we have two prototypes being made as we speak, will be able to test them out this weekend, and hopefully have something ready to go by the end of the month.

After testing the car at the limits this last Monday/Tuesday at Watkins Glen I can't even go more than 1 session without running into the fuel starvation issues on left handers. It seems that at 6-7 MPG I go through 1 gallon every 2 laps there which means after 10 laps or ~25 min I've just consumed 5 gallons and approaching half a tank.
One of my friends with an Evo 9 wouldn't get the starvation until 1/4 tank but he still had to add some gas so the 2nd session wouldn't get too low. I guess once you start pushing the cars hard on coilovers and super sticky street tires it becomes more and more of a problem and we were certainly doing that.
A fuel surge setup is going into my car very soon because juggling around multiple 5 gallon gas containers is no fun.

ok guys, i made a post regarding our surge tank for those who were interested.
