EVO X fuel starvation

It's been a while I have the problem, and I would like to know if there is a cure or we just have to live with it.

My EVO X is still pretty stock, no tune, just good wide wheels and grippy tires and an HSD suspension.
At my local short track, under hard tracking, the car will fuel starve a second or 2 after a big long ,left turn once on the straight.

It happens only when I have indicated 1/2 tank of gas. The moment I add a gallon or 2 , no issues.
Yesterday in the rain, with way less than 1/2 tank, I was good to go. I suspect that I develop much less sustained Gs in the wet than dry, so the problem does not manifest itself.

The question is- Is this normal? and if so, what can be done to improve OR allow me to track with less fuel- without big mods or a fuel cell?

Another EVO owner just commented on that at the recent track event. Once he got to 1/2 tank he'd loose the pickup on some sweepers. Live with it by always having more than 1/2 tank of gas or mod the fuel uptake in the tank...

While I am happy to hear another may have the problem, I was hoping to hear about possible remedies.
Living with it is what I have been doing, but I find it annoying to add that much weight for no reason- especially for Timeattack runs.

When you say mod the fuel uptake, - have you done this? or can explain what is required?

I have not done anything. I just said that I heard another EVO owner comment on it. He said the uptake is an inch or so from the bottom of the tank, so if you are able to extend the hose down a bit, it could help. I have an IX and I get starvation when I reach about 1/4 tank. I live with that. Good luck, but I do not have anything to offer you other than stating the overheard conversation... sorry.

That fine, thanks for the insight.
Hopefully someone else may chime in with a solution.

One thing is for sure, I will never run out of gas on the track!!

its really prone to encounter fueling problems with the 10 more so than the 8/9... the cheapest option is to obviously run with a full tank... or to purchase a fuel surge tank from AMS or the like...

the reason why 8/9's really do not encounter fuel problems more often is due to them having saddle, compared to the design of the 10's single tank...

+1 on the surge tank, that's exactly what it was made for

Ok, thanks for the good responses.

I knew that for a race car, a surge tank is a must, but I have no experience with those adapted to a street driven- mainly stock- car.

it's mentioned that AMS and Blitz both offer them, is there one better than another?
Are they bolt in? Can it be done without removing the tank or disassembly etc? Does it drop in by a trap door?

I think I will really consider this mod for next year. Running full tank is not only slower, but its hard to always arrive with a full tank, and I am tired of lugging 4 jugs in the back seat to events where fuel is hard to get.

Thanks again for the info so far.

OK, just looked at the link for the blitz product- uhmmm not going that route, makes very little sense.

For me, a surge tank goes in the gas tank and traps gas so the pickup can always be fed....

Anything else?

Same issue here. Can't run with <1/2 tank.

I just make sure to fill up regularly.

Yah luckily there is a gas station 1/4 mile from my track. So I just fill up after two sessions.

Still a pain though.
