NASA TT for Newbs

Hi All,

I would like to put together a reference for folks jumping from NASA HPDE to TT where they can find all the rules that they need to comply with that are different between the two. Mostly just for me, but hopefully it will help others out too. . .

From what I am reading in the rules here is what I see. Please let me know if this is for TT, or just for head to head racing:

- need SFI 3.2A/1 fire suit plus fire resistant underwear or 3.2A/5 suit
- need fire proof socks
- need fire proof gloves
- SFI seat belts can not be more than 2 years old
- helmets as of 2012 must be Snell 2005 or newer
- must have a HANS system
- need a yearly physical exam

What else should we add or delete from the list?

Yup.

Only point to note is that you can't use a 4pt harness going forward as per page 44 of the Club Codes and Regulations:

Note- no four point belt systems allowed after April 1, 2011, regardless of DOT certification or approval, except that belts with current tags labeled FIA B-xxx.T/98 and meeting FIA 8854/98 standards may be allowed with advance special approval.

The rules are the SAME for HPDE and TT. All you need is a car in good condition, a helmet and long sleeves/pants!

Here's some nice vids that NASA MW/GL put together for newbs:
