Help With Front Tow Hook

so i'm looking to fab up a tow hook, kinda like how mikeyb did for lqdchkn (link to lqdchkn's tow hook)), but i wanted to see if there where any other options as far as tow hooks go.

i like the way this tow hook looks, but was wondering how long the bolt/threaded part would have to be, to be mounted like lqdchkn's tow hook.

Also, before everybody goes and tells me that i have a perfectly good OEM one, i have no access to that one because it is being covered up by my undertray and if i need to be towed from the front i don't want to have to remove my bumper or get towed from the windshield.

P.S. i know i'm a ricer

From lqdchn's pictures, I'm somewhat skeptical if it will work. It does not look like there are many threads to hold the actual hook (maybe 2-3 threads from the picture). Worried that a tow truck will just rip the hook right out (especially if your car is stuck in sand) and potentially injure someone when it goes flying towards the tow vehicle.

honestly if your looking for strength that bumper supports isnt the place to look that only held on with 4 12mm bolts. With bumper and IC off try to jack your car up on your bumper support thu hold alot of your car weight and stressing it to that bar it does not like it and bends upward.
Now by any means am I saying it can not be do but I dont think its the proper place for function. For form yes function no

Exactly the thing I was always concerned with. Horror images of the entire front end being ripped off the car...

Welding a tow hook on your front crash beam will work just fine:

What youre saying is arguably misleading and incorrect.

I have images of this when thinking of tow hooks attached to the bumper beam. Granted, having the car towed on a smooth track does not create as much stress as in the vids, but what if you are stuck in a sand trap? After all, the bumper is held on by only 4 small bolts never designed to be pulled.

I understand what you two are saying. People tie in their tow hooks to different locations. Some use the crash beam, some are on the roof. Anything is possible at the track. You can roll and your tow hook on your roof can collapse. Does that mean all the guys with the tow hooks on their crash beam have the functional version? To say its not functional is a little silly.

I never once said it was not functional I just said it was not the strongest place to put it.

Prime example why the factory toe hook is on the cross member and it has hefty 17mm bolts and 19mm bolt that hold it on.

My point is I would not put mine on my bumper support. I know it should not be used to pull the cars weight i would put them else where.
