NASA Mid Ohio TTD win and track record
I like the Eclipse, it cost us $1.00. Mitsubishi asked us to build it for them for SEMA. The car handles well, has good power and has served me well through HPDE, TTE and now has set the record in TTD. I don't see myself switching to an EVO as much as I'd like to. This car is super low upkeep and has cost me so little. Switching to an EVO for me would end up being a huge money pit as I'd have it in TTU the first week!
Early EVO whatever you did to it worked!! Haha
Next up for me is some safety gear. Right now the car is having the trans pulled. Dan is going to rebuild the trans, install the front diff and put in a fresh stock clutch.. Then I'm going to install a cage, race seat and some harnesses. I'm afraid of getting t-boned or flipping it and the stock seat has no support. Today my left knee is bruised from pushing against the door and my right butt cheek feels like it was beat with a hammer from holding myself in the seat against the dead pedal.
Robi is going to do a set of custom KW's for me and come in for the next race to help me fine tune the suspension. Plan is to stay in TTD and just continue to improve. Next year probably move the car to TTC with just taking weight out. The car weighs 3490 with me in it.
Thanks for the interest.

So then, it's time for a TTx build thread here
Not many or anyone I think has done it so it'd be cool to see pics and the progress, failures and victories, just like you do with the rest

Planning on coming down to Nelson Ledges for FunDay any time?
Nelson is a blast. I'll be back there this year at some point I'm sure. My step dad likes to run there. I have to pick up another set of wheels/tires so I have a street/rain tire to run. The slicks are so expensive and wear so fast I don't want to use them for just playing at a Fun Day. I wish NASA used Nelson more often for points/track days. I'm fast there. Ran a 1:19 last year on street tires in the Eclipse. On slicks it would probably drop to 1:14-1:15's.
I will be there this Friday...First track event in the X, wanna feel the car.
On the street it sure feels superior...I still have some meat left in my AD08s, but wondering if I should just run on Stock advans and save AD08 for NASA

You may want to look into getting a CG-lock, if you haven't already. If you did that time without one, I'd bet you could have shaved at least a half second or more with one. I was in the same situation as you last year ... getting tossed around in my Evo and I finally got one, since I couldn't afford a full cage. Worked wonders even with r-comps on the car.

CG lock is a GREAT invention. We are a dealer and I have one in every car I own!
I have an appointment to get a cage in the car. My seat belts came in today, n
My new Kirky road racing seat, Kirky pad and Kirky mounts came in. Should be much easier on me next time.
I'm anxious to go back with a stiffer car, better weight distribution and some real shocks. The diff should make a nice difference too, maybe it will hook up coming out of the corners now!

Great job David! I'm jealous of you all that have been out racing already this year. I wanted to run Mid-O SO bad, but still prepping the car for One Lap. Everything has seemed to take twice as long as I had planned - and I started planning in December. . .
Hope to see ya at the next Mid Ohio event!

Update.
I will get some pictures up too.
I was on vacation for a few weeks and came back to find the Eclipse wasn't back from the chassis shop yet......so Wednesday afternoon we finally got the car back and Robert Fuller was here to set it up with new KW RobiSpec Club Sports. These are double adjustable coil overs. The Megan's I had been running came off. We had to paint the cage, bolt the new Kirky seat in and put the new RCI belts in. Robi then corner weighted the car and we found we were under weight. A trip to Dunhams for 100 pounds of steel plates and we welder and the car was at it's minimum weight and ready to go.
For reference the car is 3542 pounds at race weight with me in it. On our dyno the car makes 226 whp. According to NASA if the car is dyno'd on a Mustang Dyno you have to add 1.1%. This brought us up to 248 whp and that is how our minimum weight was set with a power to weight ratio of 14.25:1. Once at the track to be sure we were legal we put the car on the Dynojet and we made 247.5 whp.
The first few sessions were slow we were testing somethings. We then made the change that was needed and I picked up 5 seconds! In post #1 on here I was talking about winning the TTD class on Sat/Sun in the spring and setting the club course record. Well luckily for me this time we were running the pro course. I ran a 1.41:6 which put me in 1st place for the day.
Robert also jumped in the car to see how it felt and was getting his required runs in to qualify to run Nationals in September. He ran the car in TTC and I believe placed 4th.
This morning Robert took the car out first session and only got 3 runs, they were testing to see how people would react to the pace car and the session was ruined by some poor drivers after that.
Let me back up. The seat mounting was horrible for me. Too low, too far back and too reclined. There are three of us using the car now, myself, Robert and my step Dad Rick. Saturday night we went to Walmart and I bought a sleeping mat for camping and cut it to pad the seat so I'd fit better. I told Robert if I could see over the steering wheel I could gain a second.
Now, I get in the car after the 1st session Robert ran and busted out a 1.40:6! Exactly a second with more in it. I still need to do something with the seat as I am simply not able to reach the clutch or see well enough. This was a new track record though by over a half second and good enough for the win in TTD.
So I now how the Club course and Pro course track records for TTD and have four wins from the last four events. Not bad for an old drag racer.
My thanks to Robert Fuller/Robispec for all his hard work and friendship over the years and this weekend. Also a huge thanks to my step dad Rick for running all over the state for us to get weights/brakes and tires/wheels.

Congrats again David. Glad to hear you got the tires sorted out as well. It was nice to catch up with you and Robert in the grid before our heats.
