Track fuel question? What do all run?
What are you guys running at the track? I have always run 91 octane. My car is currently getting a new built block and turbo so I wanna bump up the boost/timing etc. I had plans on switching to E-85 but they pulled the only two pumps here.
I was looking at the unleaded VP M 109 (105 R/M). Its super pricey though.
How do you all feel about cut gas? Say 5 gallons of 91 to 5 gallons of 105 = 98 octane.
Since this a track car (see's 20-25 minute sessions) it drinks fuel..... running straight race gas would be super pricey.
I'll stop rambling. So what do you all run?
Thanks Tim

I tune on 93 oct and run the 100 oct just for the safety factor. It is perfectly fine to mix octanes of gas
Just straight 93 so far. I'm tuned safely at 24psi for track use, and haven't encountered knock to suggest needing higher octane for some protection. My AFRs are around 10.9-11.2 on wot. A lot of people I know will add some higher octane to protect the motor though.
I usually add a couple gallons of 110 to the 93 pump we have here. A lot of people say how the lead will eat the O2 sensor, but it hasn't killed mine (yet). At the very least I suggest adding some 100 to your 91. I have encounter knock during sessions, never enough to pull timing, but I would rather replace a sensor than a headgasket.
Most of the locals who weekend track their their cars run 92-93 with about 2 gallons of 110 for safety.
The last track event i hit up i ran 93 the entire time and never encountered knock , But was only pushing 24 psi or so.

its a little different down here. we have a bunch of E85 stations all over the area, so most people daily drive the cars on E85 now. when we go to the track, sure we need to bring 15-20 gallons/car with us. our race tracks don't always have the same race fuels from track to track though, so you could find yourself carrying with 15-20 gallons of race gas if thats what you ran as well.
I run 98 octane (in NZ). That's the highest octane readily available in NZ, E85 is available but not very common. It's just a DD so what I run probably isn't relevant.
Getting a tune on a higher octane will help with your times. Running a higher octane than you're tuned for will be safer.
If I was going to track, I'd do the half street and half race octanes for safety's sake.
