EvoJoeRacing: Back to Back Events with an FTD Win!

Hey guys,

So this past weekend was back to back events hosted my NY SCCA at Nassau Coliseum. We have had a few cancelations with bad weather and hurricanes but there was some good news that came with the cancelations. They repaved the lot! This weekend was make up events for the cancelations and was the FIRST time we got to race on the new lot!

Well this weekend we also happened to have a little bit of rain but that wasnt going to stop us from running. Brand new lot, little bit of rain BRING IT!

lol yeah well I thought so. They didnt do the best job paving the lot and since its brand new there was those pavement pebbles EVERYWHERE! I really mean everywhere... it was like walking on marbles and there was some pretty big puddles. After getting our heat assignments our group was to be the first ones to run... Yup we were the course cleaners the first heat and man was it fun.... I was the first person to go out on the course of the first heat. I got to be the guinea pig lol. 400hp AWD on a wet and gravel covered course on cold street tires = SKETCHY LAP. I short shifted first gear to stay out of boost and get into second early and got on it heading into the first right hand turn. Right as I started to brake the ABS kicked in and I slid right through the back of the turn. HAHA oh man this was going to be a fun day. Continued around the course going through slaloms with the car all over the place. It was like on ice! Got to the back stretch which was a straight shot across the parking lot with some minor gate offsets. The lot has some dips back there so it makes for a fun section. Well i got on the gas and hit boost in 2nd gear and WHOA the car started dancing all over the place.... SKETCHY!!! Finished my lap and told everyone to be careful as its nasty out there. The entire morning heat battled each other on some of the sketchiest racing ever.

Second heat went out and did their thing. We cleaned the course good for them as their times were drastically faster. After they were done we swept up the lines a little bit and went out for heat 3, our second and final attempt. The course felt 10 times better as long as you stayed in the line. The second you got into the pebbles you lost it! Well this course got fast! The back section I was full throttle into 3rd gear coming flying across the back and coming across the finish line bouncing off the rev limiter in 2nd. I won Fastest Time of Day out of the 40 cars that were there and got Second Place in my class (PAX)

I also placed 4th in PAX for the entire day which was AWESOME considering my PAX scoring!

Day 1 was a nice win! Now onto day 2! Of course it rained again over night so we were back to square 1 with wet and marble lot. We had a great turn out for this event as the Long Island Subaru Club came to race with us. I was excited to show up the Subarus and show them that the Evo is still boss lol. The course was set up using the same path as the day before to help reduce the amount of pebbles out there but it definitely wasnt the same course.

Again I was put in the first heat to do some course clean up but by the end of heat 1 we had some decent times and grip out there. I had Fastest Time of Day through out the entire heat until the last run of the heat when an S2K came in and beat me by .5 seconds. Talk about a kick in the nuts. Heat 2 went out there and lit it up! They were 1.5 seconds faster then the runs we were just doing! I thought my 55.9 was fast but these guys were running 54.0. I had my work cut out for me. Heat 3 came up and it was time to do work. The course was awesome with a nice wide sweeper after the back stretch into a BIG and FAST 5 cone slalom that went across the entire lot! I as in 3rd gear ripping through the slalom. It was awesome! After battling it out for a few laps I was able to run a 53.004! A full second faster then the Fastest Time of Day set so far. Heat 4 was up and guess who decides its time to pull out the big guns. One of the Pro Drivers pulls out his Super Stock prepped GT3 on Hoosiers to start making his runs. The car was co driven by 3 extremely talented and experienced drivers, one being GJ Dixon. Every other car out there was battling and having a hard time breaking into the 53's but not them. When they were done with their runs GJ ran a 50.5. Holy hell! I didnt end up winning FTD but I was the fastest car there after them which I will consider a win!

After PAX i ended up being 3rd in my class which isnt to bad.

And finishing top 10 in PAX for the day which is ALWAYS a challenge in an SM car ESPECIALLY on street tires!

The weekend was a total success in my book. I raced my *** off out there. Day 1 was 1st in Raw time, 2nd in my class (pax) and was 4th in overall PAX. Day 2 had the 1st fastest time after the GT3, 3rd in my class (pax) and was 8th in overall PAX. I have a whole bunch of video that I will be putting together soon and will post those up on my website and Facebook page. I will include a few photos here as well. I have another race on October 9th with NY SCCA and a few more coming up this month! The car is running fantastic right now and im having a blast racing out there on Street Tires!

Based on GJ's times. It sounds like you did pretty well. With some big Hoosiers and better suspension tweaking, you should have no problem putting some serious time on any SS car.

BTW, looking at the pics, it looks like you could use another 100-200lbs of spring all the way around. Car is flopping around too much.

Nice job on your race though!

Thanks for the kind words and compliments! Right now the car is currently 10K fronts 12K rears on the street tires. Next season with the hoosiers I will run 12K 14K springs.

As for that picture.. oh yeah... My camber is not all that great right now. Im at like -2.2 in the front which is no where near where it should be. I need to get it back to the shop to get around -3. As for tire pressure I was running 41psi hot on the *Specs. Not sure I want to run higher then that. What are your thoughts?

That won't be high enough for Rcomps.

If you run more camber then your tire pressure may need to be lower. 2.2 is way too low though. Hence the reason you are running such high pressures.
