2011 Petit Le Mans @ Road Atlanta
Yesterday my wife and I had the opportunity to watch the 17th annual Petit Le Mans thanks do her boss that had extra passes for the Michelin Hospitality Chalet. It was located on spectator hill @ Turn 5. If you ever have the chance to see this race live, that is the best spot. All the action happened there. It was an amazing experience that all motorsports junkies should see live. The only thing that would top this would be the 24hr's of Le Mans. I have already told my wife to start lobbying for a chance to go there next summer.
Here are a couple short videos of the start and a driver change by one of the bmw teams.

I love that race along with all ALMS races. However, I am really ticked at Scott Atherton for using ESPN3 to stream the races. When the races were on Speed, I could watch them in their entirety at my leisure. I was able to get the race on JustinTV on my computer, but it just is not the same. And, the disjointed coverage that ABC gives the races makes it tough to watch. The 6 hour race at Laguna Seca was really choppy in its coverage. The good news is that it looks like ESPN2 and ABC will cover most of the races live next year. So, Sebring and Petite LeMans should be back on my DVD-R.
I agree that everyone should try and get to the event, This ear was such an amazing race as well as the supports races being great as always. 4 days of awesomeness, just makes me realize im lucky to live in atlanta
I was there along with my two brothers. What a spectacular event it was. Everyone should definitely make the trip to this at least once. There is not a bad view at Road Atlanta, no matter where you sit. My brothers have been to this event for a few years, and have made it a tradition, so we were ready with tent, cooler of beer, and a grill. It was awesome. I will post pics soon!

Road Atlanta, Road American, Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio and Laguna Seca are all classic tracks. They offer great vantage points to watch races and the atmosphere is much more fun than a street circuit. You guys are too young to remember, but back in the day, they ran Can Am cars at those tracks. Unlimited displacement engines with unlimited chassis design-Formula Libre. It was truly a day of giants on the earth. Out of the above mentioned tracks, the only one I have not gone to is Road Atlanta. Gotta make the Petite LeMans someday.
I've been wanting to go to that event for years. It always seems to sneak up and we have other plans. Maybe next year, I'll just put it on the calendar and tell me wife: NO PLANS that weekend! My son is just getting old enough where he might actually appreciate it...
I wish I could have gone to this event and seen the diesels run. A couple weeks ago i had a chance to see the ALMS at Laguna Seca and had a blast. Paddock pass was great and to see those cars up close was awesome! Glad you had a good time at Petit!
