So my car's almost done, I've learned about a new racing series here in the PNW called ST (Super Touring) which has two rules, 1. Roll cage 2. 1:10 hp/weight.

Sounds great, but I'm still short a few things to be competitive, namely wheels and tires.

Do any of the tire MFR's offer contengencies? Does anything, for that matter offer them? From a motorcycle racing world where most everything offers up some prize bonuses it really helps the funding.

 

An ex-coworker of mine knew a couple manufacturers that offered contingencies. He said he just emailed marketing departments and asked until he found companies that did.

 

Most of the race i entered i did finish on podium at least in my category. Some of them was a bigger race, couple was at least nation wide, competing even in eu racer or racers. I didnt get anything ever. Just some couple hundreds from a race orgenizers to finish on the podium. Which is if you think about how much really ist, one rally race in gas cost me $400-$500...
I do know canada offered some.money if you race with mitsubishi etc. But in the states i am not sure there is anything is out there, at least what i can use in rally.

 

Contingencies vary from one organization to the next. They are also class specific. And some only provide it for the race groups. I race with NASA and SCCA and they have their own deals so it all depends on who you run with. Take Hoosier as an example. If you go to the Hoosier website under the road racing section click on the Contingency link and youll see what organizations they deal with and the varying programs and guidelines. You can also go to the NASA and SCCA websites to see all the programs they offer.

 

From my experience grassroots guys can only get prizes through the origination doing the event, so they're marketing team would have that info if any. Most all of the major tire brands specify which clubs have "signed up" and yours doesn't ring a bell really. Also if it's 1:10, wouldn't that mean you'd have to weight 4210 lbs in order to keep your current HP? seems a little off....

 

I'd detune with a restrictor to about 310 hp for the hp/wt factor. I have a good friend that races street bikes, and pays for the events thru contengency money. I was hoping there was a similar program for cars. Bummer...

 

You close to canada, ask the event orgenizers they might have a good deal for you si as mitsubishi canada. Worth an email.

If you drive a Subaru, Mazda or VW and podeum a SCCA rallycross you get cash. $300-$500 for first and goes down from there. Its higher for nationals, $1200 for first. I know Mazda has contingencies in Rally America too.

I know you asked about tire companies but I wanted to vent my frustration with Mitsubishi to not doing the same.

 

Torque is open, just hp is limited? We need to scale the car again or do you know the weight already after the cage?

After reading the rules, looks like if torque is higher than HP you use the torque to calculate min weight.

 

If TQ is higher, they TQ+HP/2*10 to calculate it. Bah, that's a complete detune... I'd have to try it and see if the fun's still there.
