issues since autocrossing
issues since autocrossing
Took the car to Devens for its first autocross and only realized when I got home that the 4wd service light was coming on every now and again.
Now its on full time once the car rolls.
This weekend I spent most of the event at Peru trying to control wheel spin from the RWD open diff Evo X.
Is this a common problem with these cars once we twist them around in autocross? During the last 3 seasons in Time attack and track days, the light never lit.
How do we properly diagnose what has failed?
Any ideas?

Mitsu S-AWC: front helical LSD, fixed 50:50 fr:rear tq split ACD, AYC active rear diff 100:0-0:100 L:R tq split
If it was only RWD and fronts had now power the center diff would have taken out the RWD too.
Thanks Smike.
I am going to the dealer today to get it scanned, hopefully it's something other than the pump and if it is, I hope I can try to get warranty on it.
I love the Evo when it's working but damn there are a lot of issues.

This probably goes without saying, but don't mention that this happened while autocrossing the car at the dealership. Autocrossing shouldn't be a valid reason to deny a warranty claim, but some dealerships will try anything to avoid doing work at manufacturer warranty repair rates.
Ok, so I am back from the dealer. The pump checks out OK. I go from 168psi to 130 psi, which is well in the range they want to see.
I had chaged- bled the fluid for AYC but maybe not the active diff fluid - uses the same fluid. BTW- there are 3 fluids that need service on the rear diff.... really.
Aside from that, the tech- who works on the Canadian championship rally EVOs- says that Mitsu just sent out a new 'patch" for the AYC ECU and this new programation has a safe mode for the pump.... weird...
Ok so now driving home the Tarmac Icon flashed every time I gas it or compress....and this is telling me that my Active diff is on safe/protect mode....un****ingbelievable.
So Mitsubishis way of saving many pump recalls is to reflash the ecu and give it a limp mode that is triggered almost instantly....
I am so disappointed with the way the manufacturr handles issues with their performance cars, that i am close to parting out and jumping to another brand.
yeah I know the grass is always greener.... but a GT3 really has me thinking..

Amazing car! If you seriously consider it try out a Cayman R first. I've had a few customers make the swap from 997 GT3 to Cayman R for maintenance cost reasons and have just as much fun! Also running similar lap time to the GT3 due to the chassis being more confidence inspiring. Just my 2 cents after working the dang cars for years lol. It's still impressive to be passed by a GT3 RSR on the back straight at Road Atlanta!! Sorry to get off topic I just saw GT3 lol
