Rereading 16.1.b, it says one inherited rule cannot prevent inheriting a conflicting rule. You can pick one entire rule from any of the listed rule sets, even if another rule set conflicts. It also says you must inherit the rules unmolested. You can't put an SM twist on a given rule, unless specifically superceded by the SM rules.

Also, 16.1.p says you cannot do something that is "explicitly prohibited elsewhere within these rules.". Does "these rules" mean section 16 only, or also the allowed inherited rules?

You are going in circles man. 16.1.P is a coverall rule for street mod that over rides every other limitation to chassis mods that isn't specifically prohibited in the street mod rules.

Also, the street mod rules allow more every where compared to the other classes listed in 16.1.b. Pretty much every category reads: "Brakes are unlimited provided you don't use exotic materials" or "suspension is unlimited provided you maintain the factory mounting points on the chassis."

Breaking that rule would be like bending a tab that moved the suspension mounting point. THAT would be in excess of the rules because it would have an intrinsic benefit that was prohibited elsewhere (must maintain factory suspension mounting locations).

If somebody challenged bending that tab, I'm pretty sure they would not win that fight. Also, I don't see how you could possibly fit 315s without bending that tab. It's not even full lock where it becomes an issue. That thing sticks out like a sore thumb before it's bent over.

Mine fits???? The tab has been hit by the tire at full lock and rubbed/ bent a bit, but it does not normally rub during an autox run unless I'm counter steering and looking out the side windows.

I also don't think it is circles. If "the rules" explicitly means 16, then it would be legal. If it refers to all inherited rule sets, then it is not allowed, imo. Bottom line for me, I run 315s and did not flatten that seam, so I don't have to worry about it.

Meh, I don't care either way as I'm changing class to Prepared or Modified and you can do a mini-tub in either of them.

You could definitely argue it, but if you can fit a wider tire that is slightly smaller in diameter, it has no real benefit in bending that tab and easily fits in the 16.1.p section. Now if bending that tab was the difference between fitting a 245 and a 315 on width alone, I could see it being a bigger issue.
