Need some brake Pad advice.... XP10
Little history on the car. 2006 Evo 9 380 whp. KW suspension Nitto N01's tires and have been running XP8 pads. The pads where perfect. Decent wear some noise but to be expected. Well I bought the Wife a Evo 8 so I swapped the pads on to that car and figured why not step up to a XP10.
Pads worked flawless on the last event then the car was street driven for about a month, just down the street to the car meets.
So I just bought a pair of XP10's for a track day that was coming up. The vendor got me the pads in time so I swapped them out bed them in and headed to the track. First session I get the worst brake shake I have ever experienced. So the pads once hot had some issues. So thinking I didn't bed them all the way I pull the pads to check them out they look ok but are not getting even wear. So I put them back on and do the bed in procedure again at the track.
They get better so I finish the event. When I get home I pull the pads to check them out and find this.

Now thats after one track day. On top of that I managed to use almost .200" of the pads.
A email to carbotech say thats normal, so looking for some real world experience? Is this normal? Are the pads damaged?
Thanks
Hunter

What do you mean swapped them in? What pad was there before the track day?
XPs can't be swapped in with other pad compounds (aka like a daily driving a different manufacture then running the XP10 for a track day).
Ducts to rotors?

You'll get heavy shudder with the XP's when switching between compounds, or from one pad to another (different make all together), at least I did. I usually try to drive through it hoping it will clean up, and it usually does. I know a few guys who have had to swap their rotors because it wouldn't though.
Those pads still look ok to me...

So rotors are getting turned today. I will reinstall and hope for the best, I do have an event this weekend, thenthe car can go on stands for a while so I can clean everything up flush the fluid etc...
Thanks for the input guys Just wanted to see what a non carbotech employee had to say.

That's your problem right there. RB to XP - shudder. XP8 is less of track pad than the XP10+.
XP10s do wear faster. I would look at the XP12 and XP20 pads for the next round.

really I was under the impression that a better track pad should last longer then a street pad. The XP8 isn't exactly a street pad either. Well based on the result of ths $200 brake pad I think its saft to say Carbotech wont be on the short list of pads next time around.

Brake wear is subjective to braking style. I race on Carbotechs too and get 3-4 weekends out of my pads.
That being said, those pads still have life left on them.

What will wear brakes faster, street or race tires? When i ran street tires, i seem to wear the pads much quicker as you are on the brakes for nearly 2X the time/distance.
Switching pads in and out isnt the best. Your pads/rotors will wear together. Swap in new pads and it will take a while for the new combo to work 100%. If you are going to swap between pads, I'd recommend swapping rotors too. they are cheap.

Not sure why you want to do that. They are noisy. Eat rotors when cold. And dust more cold.
Some have bite from low temps; some don't.
Here is a lot on pads:

If you're looking for other aggressive track options, you might be interested in the Orangestuff pads I reviewed:

Something else to consider, anyway.
