NASA April events

Well, since nobody has posted any threads for a bunch of upcoming events this month i figured i would start.

Heading to Autobahn for the first event of the year this coming weekend. It looks as if there are 3 Evo's registered to run TT's. I have entered TTU since there was nobody in TT1 for this event. With my new turbo setup i was planning on running TT1 for the year. But, with the way my car is sitting power wise at the moment i am not even close to being maxed out for TT1. I am kind of in no man's land at the moment for NASA. So, the question is do i add back the weight to run TT2 or just say f it and have fun!? Probably just say F it and have fun!

So who else is racing this weekend? Or in the coming weeks?

I'm there!

I have my car setup for TT2, but will have my bigger turbo on hand. I may switch to TTU in hopes of some chance of winning tires.

TT3 is looking better and better.

Car has a new look this season. I'll post up some pics soon.

I figured that TT3 was going to be the most competition. I think that TT1 could have a decent turnout too but i'm not sure why everyone is running TTU. Personally i'd love to see the numbers more like NARRA. 6.25:1, 7.50:1 or 8.75:1.

If either of us want any chance of tires we need to either have someone show up last minute. Or, i add weight or you add power.

I am still breaking my motor in. I think there is about 100 miles on it. Hence why a bit worried to push any more power quite yet. That, and we had some small issues getting the car to boost correctly.

Adding weight doesn't make sense. Just turn the boost down, it's easier on the engine, tires, brake pads, and the car will handle better

Well, if i actually had the time and money to dial the car in to every possible class i would be set with just turning the boost down. lol. The car will be close to 500whp if i get a good tuner and push it a little. Its sitting at a fairly low 431whp with it spiking to 27psi and dropping almost instantly to 20-21 psi. So, i'd rather go up then down at this point! Still would be ways away from a 5.50:1 tho.

And personally, what i want is a 450whp/400-420tq car that weights about 2900lb. ! To me that's a perfect car and for hillclimbs that is about perfect IMO. (and that excludeds the big one that you guys do). So, it is that age old question. Do you build the car for your self or build it to fit in to a class?

No Evo for me anymore....

But I've already been out 1 weekend in March in a Miata. I'll be out this weekend in a Lemons car at Gingerman assuming the owner can get it out of Chicago with all the rain - seriously he's having issues fetching the trailer! Then next month to Putnam in a CMC Mustang.

^Glad to see your still out racing! I'm starting to wonder if i should bring a jet ski to the track instead of a car.

I may do a turbo swap Saturday night....

I agreen I like narras numbers better. 6.25 is more reasonable to attract more cars but with I also line the fact that dot and slicks are not equally weighted with nasa. Running slicks in tt1 with nasa you can run the same setup as tt1 narra. Best of both worlds. That's the route im going.

Been there, built that. At the end building the car to the class with the best drivers/comp/regular participation ends up being the win. Tis why i'm going for ST3/TT3 this time. Plus I get to run 93 octane on a white so I could technically do ST2/TT2 as well if that suddenly picks up, but I doubt it, so i'm going to do the 1 tune this year and fine tune the tires and the shiny new AST's i got off KevinD........which should be here tomorrow.

I'll be hitting the NOLA event first weekend in May, TT3. It's a 3-region crossover, so hoping to see a good turnout.

It was a very fun weekend of racing. The whole goal of the weekend for me was to shake the car down, and hope that things are finally getting back to some sort of sanity with problems popping up. I would say that the goal was accomplished. The only problems that came up were with stupid things that i did. This is where i lost the splitter in the 3rd session on Sat. And me not putting the retaining spring back on the dip stick on Sunday..

We were able to put a full class together to run for tires and Andy bested me by .7 on Sat to take the win. At least if i had to lose, it was to another EVO. Here is our best session on Sat.

Now to what i think is kind of interesting. I have Data from last year where i ran a lap time .1 sec fast then Sat. For anyone that does not think lag matter much on a race track i'm seeing different.

Here are some numbers. I'd be curious to discuss some of this with the guys that are very familiar with Data aq.

2012 - 2013
1:31. 157 - 1:31.243
Max HP 358 - 416*
Max tq 326* - 323
Braking time 23.67* - 26.12
max braking 1.09 - 1.34*
Avg Braking .17 - .20*
Entry speed 109.54 - 116.15*
exit speed 110.80 - 115.51*
Max excel .9 - 1.0*
max speed 121.12 - 126.27*
Avg speed 80.76* - 80.72

Obviously i lost some time in the braking time section. But, from looking at a comparison side by side on traqview i see that the i am losing the battle with spool compared to my old setup. The car would accelerate much quicker out of the tiight turns before. I do catch up with more HP and but the quickness seems gone. It could be, that i just need to work with it and get on the gas a bit sooner to wait for it to spool. That and i know that some better tuning and cam gear adj could help me.

Can you overlay data to your videos? That would be much more helpful in determining what the difference is between your laps. With that big of a discrepancy in max speed you should be going faster. You are getting quite a bit more braking g's as well, which means you are going faster and stopping harder.
Those snap shots only give us extremely limited data. Max braking could be at any turn, but what is the braking difference in all of the turns. If consistently higher, that is saying something. What are your minimum apex speeds?

Maybe you need to smooth out your corner entry by braking like you did before, but perhaps a little earlier, so you can get off the throttle earlier and maintain more momentum. Seems like you may be pressing too hard mentally because of the perceived (or actual) turbo lag and trying to go too deep into the braking zones.
