cracked a RPF1 wheel at the track

Got these wheels used, they are probably 5 years old and have seen tons of autox. Ive done about 15 TT days on them with a6. I was runing r6 this weekend at Pittsburgh Raceway. The track is very bumpy. Not sure when I broke them saturday, but i spoted them Sunday morning when I was swapping tires.

good catch... That is why it is important to check and double check wheels, brakes etc while racing . Imagine if you wouldn't notice this on sunday, and you would go out for another session ?!

Damn! Glad you caught it. Can't say I've ever really seen RPF1s crack like that unless the driver hit something, which obviously you didn't...

Video of the track. The cracked wheel was on front passenger side. Don't think the wheel crack during this session because I did 2 more session after that.

Any evidence on the tires? (what size wheel and tire) Excessive rubbing/bumping on a particular corner?

That hit right after the 3:30 mark was a bit rough, maybe that started the cracks & they got worse over the next 2 sessions...Once again, glad you caught it!

no sign of rubbing on tires or contact of the wheel. running 255/35/18 on 18x9.5 +38 wheels and 20mm spacers. the height of these tires are shorter than the 275/35/18 that i normally run but the width is the same. the curbs on this track are not as high compare to some other tracks i've run, but the track was pretty pumpy in some sections.

This and spoke flex is the reason why I shy away from the RPF1 wheels, even with the weight savings.

Glad you found it before anything serious happened!

Man those vipers are strong in the straights.

Good catch on the wheel. That could have been a bad day. It's not uncommon for wheels to eventually fail after repeated high g and high stress use.

Is that the factory hyperblack finish?

I had a wheel break off at the hub on my RX-7, also broke some spokes on some powder coated FNORcs on the Evo. Glad you caught it.
