Evo X at NYST

Took my Evo up to NYST this weekend to feel it out - it was the first time at the track with this car, and although it had some issues, overall it did well, and I had some fun.

Here is a vid of me chasing my buddy in his GT2 around the track.

A couple issues I had - no fuel pressure after taking left hand turns with less than 1/2 a tank. Annoying!

Oil line for turbo drain came loose and leaked on downpipe.

Brake fluid boiled and lost 70% of my braking coming down the straight - Yikes!

Other than that, it did well....

Awesome! Looks really fun. Question, was your brake fluid Dot 4? Wondering if that would have prevented the boiling a bit.

I hope to go there with my R6 very soon. I hear it has lots of elevation changes and challenging corners.

It was the factory DOT 3. I bled it out, but it's not good enough for the track. I am going to do a full flush with Motul 600 or 660 this week. I never had trouble with that stuff.

It's like a roller coaster. ALOT of fun. There were a few bikes there on Saturday, and they looked like they were having a blast.

Greg (The owner of NYST) is a GREAT guy. Go up and see him, you won't be disappointed!

Cool, thanks for the video. I plan on checking it out, if not this year, definitely next year. It's barely 1.5 hrs away from me.

i wish they hadn't played the game of scheduling car track days and then backing out/not getting proper approval/whatever...really looks like a fun track.

We haven't experienced anything like that so far, and have been there a few times.

They have made some MASSIVE improvements from the first time we were there (which was the first day they were open) - Top coat of track finished, curbing installed, parking lot and most of access road paved, brake markers, apex markers, stripes, etc, etc...

last winter they had contracted with an organization i run with and wound up having to refund everything over town permits or something which made it sound like they were going the private route like monticello did. we lost two days out of our season schedule over that.

did you run with a group or a member?

I am a member, but it was a private day for my driving club (DFC - Driving Force Club). It was just us, and Greg's family and friends (most of which were on bikes). One of our members even beat the track record in his MP4-12C while we were there on Sunday - He was FLYING! -

so i was just looking at the site...i had assumed that membership was super expensive country club style...

so $50 a year and then $250 per event is the real cost of driving there? thats not terrible.

what are typical "member" track days like? its so close to my parents house it may be worth joining next year and using it for practice days in the weeks between NASA events.

Yes. It's worth a look. It seems that more bikes show up on member days than cars. We did 1/2 a day on Saturday (which was a member day), and there were 200 bikes there, but only about 6 cars. I think you'll like it. Surface is clean and new, and it's a fun layout. LOTS of elevation changes.

Greg is super cool, so if you want to pop in and check it out and sit for a lap or two in a car, he'd likely be down with that. Give him a call.

Yeah that's absolutely a great deal. My schedule is so up in the air, this would be great to just go have some fun on a free day.

I wonder how much advance they need to go on a member day?

And they run cars/bikes separate right?

That's a good deal indeed. I really may consider that for next year.

I'm also assuming they separate cars and bikes. The McLaren has his window most of the way up in that video which is a bit of a sign of how things might run there.
