Wait, you were the blue EVO at the December Audi event? I was in the white Talon running in the intermediate class. I was also the guy running Tech the first day.

Damn, I just finally loaded those pictures posted earlier in this thread. That white Talon entering the uphill esses is mine! Sweet! Small world.

140, wow! I am not sure how fast I was there, but it wasn't 140. It was hard to look at the speedo at the end of that straight (it's stuck over in the corner of the dash) since there were more pressing issues, like the braking & turn in points to think about , but I was just into 5th gear for a bit (4th tops out at 125, so I estimate I was at 130-135 approximately).

Your race rubber this weekend will help top speed since you can exit the corner before the straight so much faster. The rain will be great for learinng and awd cars kill 'Vettes/Vipers etc in the wet.

BTW, cool picture of the Evo in the S's, I've been showing it around. I was passing a slower car and probably doing 80-85 there and 110, as mentioned, at the top of the S's & getting slammed back and forth by the G -forces up through there. The Evo's handling is not bothered by the curbs, so I was climbining them big time thru there in an effort to straighten the course out. Since one of the Vette drivers in my group wadded-up his vehicle there, I was also holding back just a little.

Thomas: I talked to someone who had a light Talon that had been breathed on and was leaving my Evo in the dust on the straights. That driver said he had an Evo at home. Was that you?

I could not look at the speedo either, but my 5th runs out at 135 mph, and I had to shift to 6th right before the front straight kink. So, I am estimating that from the kink to Turn 1 braking point I probably did reach 140.

That is why I am looking forward to doing VIR with our data logger this time and record, TPS, speed, RPM, LatG, LongG, Yaw, MAF, etc. Then I will have a more complete picture hopefully.

A friend of mine in the silver WRX (heavily modified engine and susp.), Keefe, also mentioned that he was reachin 110 mph at the back Sess, but I highly doubt I was able to; may be 100 mph, but that is about it. We'll see this weekend, if I can get the car back from the shop in time that is.

Yup, twas me. That Talon probably has close to 100 hp on the EVO. If it wasn't walking you in the straights, something's seriously wrong. The twisties are where you and I were having some fun, I think.

I loved seeing that EVO in my rear view heading up the esses at 110! You were right on my butt the entire time. Too bad I got flustered on the very next downhill lefthander and had to do a reset on myself. We were really having some fun. Your car (with your driving) and that Porsche 996 TT X50 were the only ones giving me any grief that day. And the Porsche wa being driven by the owners son in my group, so he clearly wasn't pushing that thing hard. Even so, I had to actually work a little to get around him.

I was so happy to see an EVO in my run group. I wish I could run mine, but the wife reminds me I gotta get to work on Monday... Better to take the track car. You going again in late April? I'm going to be there for sure.

If that STi was reaching 140 down the back straight without too much effort, then I'm impressed. My Talon, pushing close to 400hp on pump gas, was hitting 145 or so before I'd let up a bit. But that was going pretty hard and I wasn't letting up all that far from the end of the straight. I could probably hit 150, maybe 155 but that's definitely it. The car just doesn't feel good above 140, so I don't push it much past that. It was hitting 125 in the front straight going hard the whole time, if that provides any reference.

To further shrink the world, the white Eclipse in this shot is a friend of mine that caravan'ed down with me. I believe he will be there again in April as well.

Thomas:

On Sunday when I ran with you I had swapped the snow tires for the stock Advans and it was definitely hooking up better. As I told you then, I thought that I would be a real champ dropping down to the "intermediate" group but everyone I ran with there was as fast as I was, or faster.

I was running with your group since I was leaving early to head home (550 miles to Cincy. On the way back I got lost in the pitch darkness in rural Kentucky & ended up on the best sports car road that I ever have driven, lots of hairpins, switchbacks etc, totally deserted at 11:00pm Sunday) Anyhow, given that VIR was an Audi Club event, it is amazing how many people on this Forum were there.

I am doing Putnam Park 3/28 with Predator Motorsport (www.predatormotorsport.com), just 40 miles west of Indy. I now have a used set of Hoosiers and we'll see how that affects my times. I got down to low 1'25's, high 1'24's on the Advans last year. I just noticed one of the car mags took the new 400hp Caddy & a BMW M3 & something else there & ran slightly slower times in the Caddy, slightly faster in the new M3 (by a few tenths), so the Evo stacks up well.

I am too frankly impressed that is with the car. As you know, the key to front straight speed are the turns 15 though 17a, and I think was (more like the car) was doing pretty well through those. The first time I hit the rev limiter on 5th, I was suprised as I was not expecting to be at that speed and I hadn't run out of it on Saturday.

Several people were complaining about cross winds on Sunday, and I never noticed it at all. The car was very balanced through the whole track.

This time, again hopefully, I will be able to log data. And I will be short-shifting a little at around 6000 rather than 6500-6700.

Hey Tom! Hopefully I'll be running at the VIR event with you guys again in April, had a blast last year!
It would be cool to see more Evo's out there this year, don't know if I'll be able to keep up!

Excellent! It'll be great to see you again. I agree with a previous poster...odd how many people on *this* board are attending the Audi events.
