20w50 is way too much on a non built motor, ive had zero issues with 10w40. only time i saw my car push 220 degree oil (measured in the pan) was while hot lapping a full session while hot pitting to switch between myself and an instructor driving which pretty much heat soaked the oil cooler. my coolant temp gauge has never moved above dead center.

there were two guys who ran a fan on the stock oil cooler in a puller config and both saw a good temp drop. i bought the fan they run with plans to set it up so could run it while cooling down in the pits but never got around to setting it up.

10w40 is what I’ve been using. I believe 210-220 is also what I was running.. I can’t remember- it’s been a while. I’d have to look at my gauge again. I just remember checking average track temps on this site and I was falling right in line. My temps are also measured at the pan.

Which fan are you using? Is it a certain fan that works better than most? If not, I’d just get the highest CFM fan I can find in that size. Maybe make a shroud for it.

I have seen some pretty high oil temps on my 04 Track car. It already has AC deleted etc. I never had an issue in my evo 9 but it was also not drive as hard for as long. I plan to do a nice oil cooler set up soon. But the thought of just up grading to a Evo 9 Cooler has beeen on my mind. Car is a stock Evo 8 Long block with a BBK BB B turbo. People who think its not an issue don't run in 100+ days.

hm..

i do have the IX cooler and a smaller turbo/less power setup. interesting. i am going with water wetter and a cooler thermostat. i'll be good for April.. but will probably be doing at least one track day this summer.

i would think a fan would hurt airflow on the oil cooler, but that's interesting info. i'm assuming to add it as a puller?
we commonly use Torco octane booster with great results. just in case. knock is a b**ch.
i was hoping for a decently-priced thermostat. that's awesome news, thank you! also, water wetter is a staple for me, i've always used it. where i live doesn't get below freezing, so it's never really been a concern for me. if it were, i'd drain it for af/water for the winter anyway.
i like the idea of pulling the fuse. i'll try that for sure.
insulation strips are intact. i make sure of that.

20/50 oil. Alot of people (gsc/english/engine builders) prefer 20/50 on track days for added protection. Brad penn or Valvoline VR1 are pretty good.
The AMS pan is hard to beat, it holds 1.5 more qts of oil that will help with temps and starvation. Install takes a little time but can be done in an afternoon.
As far as the fan setup goes, The math doesn't add up but in his case it worked on back to back testing. I think he was at Sebring,FL in the summer with track temps over 110*. You will have to search for it. I think he had it setup as a pusher.
Spal fan pulling air. I have one on the tranny cooler. Easy install.

What did you use as plumbing and pump? I have a 6spd and would like to keep it healthy.

I assumed it had an oil cooler as well, yes.

I installed a 60c* thermostat and water wetter. In the 62f* night air, this thing runs super cool. LOL.

You could always wire an extra fan up in front of the radiator/behind the intercooler. More airflow never hurt!
