Function First Evo racing at Thompson Speedway
I wasn't impressed with the track. Seems more like an autox track with a long straight. The new tarmac was really falling apart after every session. Theres no usable curbings. Only part I like about the track is the few corners before the last turns. I wont be going back anytime soon. Not worth the 7 hours drive.
I love the track. Its a great track to race on. It's a track were you will never feel like you nailed the perfect lap. Tough, bumps, dangers and challenging. A real man's track . This is a track a rally driver would feel at home on. I love the off camber sliding corner onto the stock car track! Give us more tracks like this one! Not those safe engineered boring tracks they design now.

probably some of the most dangerous tracks in the northeast with all the incidents they've had in the past few years. with the latest incidents at Hyperfest two weeks ago, I wont be going back there anytime soon until they do something about track safety. i enjoy challenging tracks, just not unsafe track.

I don't know why exactly the Evo didn't perform better. First the car was tuned on 100 unleaded fuel but the track only had the NASCAR green 98 and 112 leaded that we mixed. I chased brake fitting leak problems all weekend with no pedal left at the end of Saturdays race. Sundays race I corded my left front tire. Wrong pressures Saturday probably. Although we finished competatively with the other 3 top ST-2 cars times. The top 4 cars were running within 4/10's of a second. We were right there for times but I went off twice in Saturdays race and Sunday destroyed a tire... They way my back felt I was very happy with my performance and releaved that we fixed the brakes for Sundays race.
I drove Summit back in the 90's. Saw a driver in a Chevron die in a vintage race there. EMRA use to do night endurance races there were they would have to search with flash lights for cars that went into the woods!

Thats also the reason I dont run A6's anymore as I tend to cord both fronts in just one race.
I keep fighting with myself on this. Logically and $ wise it doesn't make sense, but I keep seeing evidence that it does...Hoho did just come out with S80's.....
A pro super touring driver did test at NJ Motorsport with A-6 vs Slicks. They had equal lap times for 3 laps, then the A-6 times fell and the slicks got a bit faster. If a race stays green for 30 minutes your better off with slicks and less hp. R-6 tires might have worked better at Thompson. I used the only new set I had which were A-6 tires I won from 2011 and 2012. Now I did'nt win tires and all I have for the next race at Lime Rock are old worn tires.
We will be doing a full alignment and suspension check before making changes for Lime Rock Park. At Lime Rock you run very little camber on the right side.

We believe the main problem is the brakes. I do not have enough braking force to slow the car down and hence I push the car entering the corner. The data shows only .9 gs
I am going to change front brake compound from the PFC 01 to the older PFC 83 and hope it bites down harder. We have been having problems with the rear mono block NASCAR PFC calipers. Bleeder screws weeping, bypass line fittings leaking and stainless lines leaking. Finally during Sundays entire race and the last TTU session I had a constant good pedal. Still I need more brake. We can leave the PFC 01's in the rear but the front has to change. 83 compounds are available for $100 a set. The car needs a thorough maintenance and suspension tuning. We have a full test afternoon on Thursday before July 4th racing at Lime Rock. A spring rate change is on the table of testing that afternoon. My only problem is tires. I needed to win tires at Thompson for Lime Rock. With two 4th place finishes we were competative but fell short in the hour of need. If anyone has new tires not being used let me know. I can't afford $1300 for a new set......
