I'm on all evo 9 gears with the JDM 5th and couldn't be happier, however the next time around i'd opt for the 411 esp for the technical tracks.

It's "common wisdom" 8500 is good place to stop on 4G64 Oem crank , but us who opted for Buschur lightweight crank or comparable K1, Arrow, etc, see no reason to limit lower.
Albait, I like to respect my car so I self limited to 7500rpm for now, cams and turbo can support 8500 redline but I just adapt driving style to revlimit.
i don't doubt the 2.3 can make power all the way to 10k, as long as you have a big enough turbo. i doubt Dave drive his car daily and hit rev limiter in every gear every time he takes his car out on the street, like i do every time im on track. hit rev limit 10+ per lap in four 25 minutes session a day, 30+ track days a year. i'm not looking to rebuild the motor every two years

i've driven my friends evo with 6sp on track and really like the gear ratio. id do a 6 speed swap in a heart beat if they didn't blow up so easy.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. Sounds like it is split on whether the 4.11 is worth it or not. This is a dedicated track only car which does not see second gear during the race on tracks I ever run at. Even on rolling green flag start I'm usually in third gear.

Raising the rev limiter up a bit may be an option to consider, I was running at only 7500 with stock block for safety reasons. Maybe with a built setup I can go up a bit more.

I guess I'll have to put a bit more thought into it before making decision. Right now I may be leaning toward keeping stock FD and going with JDM 5th instead.

I did a few calcs for you to compare 4.11 vs stock FD. Check the attachment. Just rev 800rpm higher on your stock FD. Faster acceleration and goes to the same top speed in every gear.

I'd stay stock. easier and cheaper. I don't think the (possible) gain is worth the added cost/work.

The JDM 5th sounds nice, except for maybe Road America.

I'm trying out this new straight cut 4th gear with a 1.0 ratio (slightly taller gear than the evo 8 4th). This should help on several tracks for me where I find myself running at rev limit in 4th. Also should cure the weak 4th gear that seems to let go after a while.

Nice. Let us know how the straight cut gear works out. I'm going to get the TRE cooling cover to help out the 4th gear until it needs rebuild again.

Straight cut on all gears is possible but expensive. At that point you may as well go full dogbox.

Got this from PAR in Australia. Its a direct drop in straight cut synchro'd 4th gear. I haven't found anyone else running it so I decided to pick one up and try it out.

I know of about 3-4 other people that want a set of 4th gears like this, so I may try to organize a group buy to get cost lower.

I don't really know. They happen to have one on the shelf and ready to ship (which only took like 4 days surprisingly).

$800 shipped. I paid full price. Bulk orders do qualify for discounts. I have about 3-4 others interested, I'd be happy to organize a group buy.

I recently went to a short track on 400hp and a 4.11FD. The car is slower at that HP level then the stock turbo/FD but easier to drive with the longer ratios. You can focus more on driving then shifting. I wanted to run the car at 450whp for a few laps but between a massive boost leak and bald tires it wasn't a good idea. It was running 16psi then ending at 20-21psi.

I plan on running a larger track this year such as Sebring and I will report back at that point. I have the TRE cooler installed. Money well spent.
I also installed brake ducts and saw a reduction of 150-250 degrees after 10-12 min sessions vs no ducts on the front calipers.
I think a 2.2/2.3 would be much better with a 4.11FD because of the torque/spool up difference

Here is the same track with 4 camera angles and 350whp/26psi on the stock turbo/final drive. The fun factor and acceleration were alot higher. I ran a few 1:20-1:22's but the tires were much better as well.

im also interested in that 4th gear. ill need to look at the ratio calculator later. i run two tracks where slightly more 4th gear would be nice, but my bigger issue is that i have a season and a half on my gearbox and its already starting to crunch syncros again
