Lets see your rollcages!!
hey guys.
Looking for some pictures of your rollcages. show us what youve got. show any extra bars or details you had added etc. how it fits around the door cards and dash ect.

There are a fair amount of cage pictures in the "let see your racecar" sticky. But some can also be found here (link below). In your other thread I posted that I will be getting my car back soon. And pictures will follow. Full weld in custome cage. All interior removed, front glass removed, dash gutted and cut, NASCAR door bars on drivers side, etc.

yea theres definately other threads with pictures of rollcages dotted through it.
I was trying to collate some images specifically in one place focusing on rollcages.
Am about to put one in mine so just looking for some neat things/extra rollbars etc. so thought id create a thread for just cages. much like the wheel fitment threads etc.
I found the lets see your racecar thread had too many weekend warrior street spec cars in it and not enough dedicated circuit cars.
Also was looking for solutions for the door cards and had heaps of good ideas come up there.
mouseIX looking forward to seeing your cage! ill post up progress pics of mine also

How will u get away with that? i assume u mean by not having the bar running along the roof above the drivers door and down the a pillar. not sure how else you can go about it. could you not place padding like we can here?
Here a few cell phone pictures taken of the build. Little odds and ends are being finished up and then I'm bringing her home to paint it myself.
1.5' tubing. TIG Welded together. MIG welded to the chassis.
Note the grab handles where the a-pillar bar joins the Halo bar. Really helps in climbing in and out.

Drivers side floor area, clutch pedal in picture.

Rocker bars that a stitched to the chassis.

NASCAR bars finished on the drivers side. Passenger side has a custom set up that is really easy to enter and exit. Pictures don't do the geometry of the passenger side justice. Custom seat brackets have dropped the seats at least +4 inches from stock height.

More to come once I get it home and paint it.
Cheers,
CB

What is the little hoop down next to the clutch pedal attaching to the gusseting on the front of the nascar bars?
Is it there to guide ur foot onto the clutch or as a rest pad or something?

It's a dead pedal to rest the left foot. It looks close in the pictures but once I sat in the car it was perfect for me.
So i went around a few workshops today and had some good conversations. One guy is coming to see me tomorrow after work to look at the car and quote up. Turns out he lives about 10 houses away from me haha.
Ive drawn a diagram in paint which ill attach. The bars in black are the minimum requirement from motorsport nz which is the regulatory body here. (For some reason fia spec cages arent good enuf for them)
Extra bars im planning to add are : from a pillar to front struts.
One diagonal across halo bar.
one harness bar
double side intrusion on both sides.
Im still indecided on wether to add a cross through the main hoop and/or a cross through the bars that go from main hoop to c pillar.
So any input u guys can give me here would be great. In terms of what it will do performance wise vs cost really.

stop guessing and use or at least copy of that cage which is tested and fia approved as a base to build your own.
you want to do it once so do it right. Dont forget the seem welding neither.
pay extra attention the attaching points where to attach the cage to the car body.
minimal, which i would never install:

for rally rally cross and recommended for hill climbs

http://www.customcages.co.uk/Rollcag...rer=Mitsubishi
ps: i would never work with a shop , who needs my opinion/ idea with a cage build.
any how, pick a design between those two, like high lights those bars what you like. Also the FIA certified cages are the highest level in ANY sport, so i am not sure who told you that the FIA cage is not "good enough", the guy was either BS you or he just flat out dumb. ANY FIA cage design is tested etc. vs some wonder garage designs and claiming this is the best but really no test ever been done. Remember real life test vs "proven ideas" ...

Depends on what type of racing you'll be doing? If it's any kind of rally/climb by all means follow the proud (former) European above and those examples
. But I think you meant that FIA spec is fine, it's just not what's required so you wanted input on "that" design. The red bars you added are fine, but I'd also add at least one if not a X on both the main hoop and the C pillar diag, plus gusset where you can. Remember if you ever want to sell the car or run in another class/country it'll need to meet "those" requirements as well so it's better to do as universally acceptable as possible.

sorry robevo i think you may have mis understood what i was saying about FIA cages. personally i dont see anything wrong with FIA spec cages. but motorsport new zealand who r the regulating body here dont regard an FIA cage as meeting their minimum requirements.
Which is a real pain to make an FIA kit cage compliant. but it is the first thing most shops offer as its cheap for them to do. most shops that do cages regularly dont really get looked into much when applying for homologation because they know the correct pictures to take and they do them all the time so they just get signed off. but i could imagine if somebody who doesnt build cages often applied with a fia kit cage they would have a pretty hard time.
Its pretty stupid considering its FIA approved but hey
I actually have been offered cages from customcages.co.uk by two different workshops. and not really a fan of them, for starters the bend radius on the harness bar is too tight to pass nz regulations. they offer them as the first thing because they are cheap and the shops make a good margin and they dont take much time as everythings pre bent.
I am the one who wants to have input in the cage design. but all good workshops will do anything you want from the minimum requirements right through to a full hill climb/ rally cage like you posted up and anything in between. hence why they require your input to know what kind of level you want to go to. and obviously the price can go from $2000 to $25,000 like a subaru brz endurance car one of the shops was building a cage for.
the car is going to be a full circuit car and wont be doing rally or anything.
If the car meets minimum requirements here it far superceeds what the fia requirements are. not quite sure why they are so safety obsessed here but meh.
Anyways the design has progressed a long way from what i posted up earlier. turns out my picture wasnt even the minimum requirements to begin with. i was missing the diagonal on the main hoop and diagonal on the strut tower uprights. which would then make it the minimum requirement.
Anyway these are the additional bars we r looking at adding.
Rear strut brace bar,
full rear cross,
rear lower main hoop to rear strut bars,
second lower main hoop bar for seat and belt attachment,
main hoop single diagonal,
dash bar,
2 x extra front strut bars and 2 x windscreen to front lateral bars,
along with 2 x bars/or gussets main hoop to front lateral bars
ive attached a diagram showing these.

If anybody is interested this is the minimum specs extracted from the motorsport manual here:
Safety Cage – this term is used to mean a structural framework (principle structure) made up of a main
roll bar, two lateral roll bars (or front roll bar), their connecting members, one diagonal member, two
backstays and (a minimum of) six mounting points. As of 01/01/2013 a transverse harness bar attached
across either the main roll bar or backstays will become a mandatory member.
