Rear caliper pad pins fall out

At Thunderhill today I figured out that the pins in the right rear brembo caliper fall out in a matter of laps. Any reasoning behind this?

Id say hard part failure, or installation error. Have you looked over the pins? Maybe time for a new set? Try bending the arms on the retainer out a bit more so they are applying more pressure on the pins.

I've got 30+ days on mine and 3 sets of pads back there; never been an issue.

Who was the last person that drove in the pins? They have to be fully seated & must use a punch to fully seat them

Unless the clam shell device that holds them in place is worn. New pins needed

Maybe its a bad angle, but it doesn't look like that other pin is seated very well either.....

I swapped the pads to my ST47 on Friday with a small punch as I always have done more times than I can count. Hah

The picture shows how the 2nd pin is fallen out after 3 hot laps. This is after we removed the remaining pin, expanded the locking ring and reinstalled. Strangely the entire 3hr drive home there was no issue with the pin falling out; gonna say it's a heat related issue. This is only happening on the right rear caliper.

It happens, your not the first person. Happened to a friend at njmp last weekend. Just order up a spare set to carry. Heard a rumor sti pins come drilled for a circling but not sure it's true, but would be pretty simple to do a setup like that.

What causes it? Not sure, but the ap racing kit uses a threaded bolt type pin probably for good reason.

Yup I've been able to find a few cases of this. But nothing promising or that has any helpful input. A buddy of mine who is a machinist is going to make an OEM style pin but with a clip on the outside to prevent it from falling out. If anyone is interested I'm sure he can make multiple sets.

Thinking about this further: If the brakes are not sliding smoothly on the pins, under braking, I can see where the pins may get pushed out. Smoothing down the pins & brake lube may do it

The cause: Either worn pins / the pin holes have gotten too large or the brakes are not sliding on the pins

Good topic

That is one thing that i thought about last night; the pads not sliding evenly and creating a friction against the pin, enough to slide it out of the hole.

Evo5 brembos came with pins that used r-clips, evo6+ went to that spring bush setup.

Here is the P/N for the pins: MR407383
The clip: MR407366
That is for the rear caliper

Front caliper:
Pin: MR407365
clip: MR407366

Had to go digging waaay back to find the pic but here it is:
(fixed)

Not an issue ever since. Clips are from the $1.00 kit at harbor freight. Grind half of the end flat then use a drill press. The rear caliper pins are not fitted nearly as well as the fronts, so that heat (as you got faster) expanded the caliper (flex) and creates just enough gap for the lead to slide out.

This^ would clearly be the answer, but I can't find any of the parts for sale on line.

I'm having a local machine shop turn me some pins with clips. I'll post a few pics when they call me to pick them up.

I get all my OEM parts from amayama now.
http://www.amayama.com/

Them being based in Japan means they have pretty good access to anything and the prices are pretty good.

you are overheating rear calipers ??? From the picture it doesn't look like you have heat issue. There must be other reason, not heat thats causing the pin to fall out. If that was the case my front pins would be loooong gone.
