Best driver in the World

So who you guys think is the best?

I have to go with him:

http://www.enterf1.com/blog/189-seba...ed-opportunity
"
Sadly, Loeb was not granted an FIA Superlicence which prevented him from entering the race. It was a horrible missed opportunity for F1.

It is important to understand the FIA’s position, and why they were technically right to prevent Loeb from competing. Formula One is dangerous, it is not a finishing school for boy racers and cannot afford to have inexperienced rookies creating an unnecessary hazard."
"Sebastien Loeb, who finished eighth fastest out of seventeen drivers in an official F1 test at Barcelona in 2008..."

I call it BS and its a clear nasty game of the FIA maffia of F1.

Anyway bonus:

hm... do you understand he had no previous real history in open wheeler, and when he test it to maybe run that race, he did finished 8th place....
Just let that sink in, for a minute.

In three years he would be a World Champion, no doubt. But now he is too old for that.

There is no one in my opinion, had a talent , understanding, style, will etc. to be that great.

There MANY great drivers out there or even more entertaining, but all of them fall short of his achievements. So in my mind they all fail this way or that way against him.
For me he is a winner against anyone even if its by a margin.

By the way he did was measured against F1 drivers before in ROC. lol

ROC suits his driving style since it more like rally.

Remember ROC is over a number of different disciplines so he will be strong in some and weak in others. Loeb is the new age Robocop type of rally car driver and it just managed to be a magical meeting of the opportunity, aptitude and the technology all being ideal at the same time.

F1 is 80% car / 20% Driver

Rally is more driver than car (not sure what the offset percentage would be)
Rob would know

Much easier for a rally driver to transition to a road course car than vice versa

Best driver in the world is Valentino Rossi

rally drivers are good drivers and have huge *****, but it's not wheel to wheel racing
unless it's rallycross, those are fun to watch.

it is really sad in the USA rally sucks, so I do agree with you here.

But if you ever have a chance to go to see a WRC event, please do and come back and tell me how was it ....

You have to experience it in person. The whole atmosphere, people and the action. I bet you will not understand how this is possible, literally. After 20+ years I still don't get it how the top 20 do it. Also today they are much faster then Group B ever was...

You will find a new universe I promise you.

Since you are in this side of the pond, I wouldn't say go to Finn land- Sweden - Monte-Carlo , Portugal etc etc. Those are a real hard core events. (skip Greece that's sucks as a spectator)

I simply say go to Mexico make it cheap and easy, but for me not the best for spectating too dusty.

BUT if you really want to see a real treats go to EU... This is a what you will experience from up close. I am telling you NOTHING comes close to it even as a spectator.
Let me know if you interested I might can help you spectate

PS: but this thread is about ONE driver you think is the best

Rally may not require race craft, but it does require excellent twitch reflexes and judgement of what are ultimately unknown course conditions, grip level, etc. things F1 drivers don't have to deal with.

Sigh, the never-ending debate. The two driving styles couldn't be any more different. In F1 you may be taking the same corner over and over but you have to be 10/10ths of that lap, that corner, that second's grip level which is all by feel. In rally you hit the corner once, by feel, and some passenger suggestion. Because of this there really is no need to perfect the apex's because you have 1000 more turns to make it up in. However your car is usually quite different from the others so you may have an advantage, or you may have a super disadvantage. In F1 the cars can be 99% the same but that 1% equates to seconds a lap difference sometimes. Blablabla.

Known:
No matter what it is, Every second counds. The relationship between the man and machine makes or breaks the race.

Because:
In F1, you can pit in and make corrections to thousands of parameters. In rally, you just hope that your co-driver doesn't realize you literally sh*tted yourself a mile back when you barely missed that tree.

I am going to go outside the box and say V8 supercar champion Jamie Whincup. For anyone who has not seen Australian V8 supercar racing, you are missing out.
