Racing seats

I am looking to purchase new racing seats for this season, and would like some input on what you fellow racers have had good luck with. I was mainly looking at Sparcos, but recently OMP is available at my work place. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with OMP seats?

I am 6'2" and 200 lbs with a 32 waist, so most likely looking at an XL seat. I'm going to need a drivers and passenger, matching is not necessary. The car sees very little street time, so thought about a halo for the drivers. Would like to stay under $1000 retail per seat.

Any input is appreciated.

It's important to sit in them to try them out and see both how they feel from a comfort standpoint and to see how the harness holes align with your shoulders. I have a Sparco Pro ADV seat with a halo that I used when I used to trailer my car. It's not awful on the street visibility wise for me because my eye level is above the halo, but it's also pretty confining for street driving in other ways, so I'm planning to sell it and replace it with an Evo2 that I just got new on a Black Friday sale (paid $660 plus tax). If you have a 32" waist, The wide seats may be too big for you. I have a 31" waist and the Evo3 was Buick big on me. The Evo2 was comfy and the non-US version put the harness holes high enough for me (I'm 5' 11" but my legs are only 30" inseam, so I fit seats like a 6' person). My Camaro has a pro 2000 which also fits okay, but not like the Evo2, especially with a Hans. Not sure if any of that helps.

I have Sparco Evos in mine. With a 32 waist you might be okay in one.

I tried an Evo2 as my passenger seat because it was cheap, but it did not work with my Bride FG rails. Probably would have worked with custom brackets.

FYI, when I referred to the Evo2 in my post above, I was referring to the current Evo2, which was formerly the Evo 2 Plus.

My drivers is a Sparco evo. Passenger is evo2, as stated above its very tough to get it to fit inside the bride rails but possible. Wish i would have sat in more seats before dropping $1400. They get the job done but i imagine theres something a bit more comfortable out there for me atleast. My Gf drives my evo on the track some events and she really likes the Sparco evo.

i got Sparco Ergo mainly because i drive my car on the street sometimes and wanted halo for the track but not for street because of visibility. it's the only seat that has removable halo. ive done 4+ hours trips in the seat on street, so its not bad with comfortably, i did add two kidney pads.

Another thing to consider with a race seat on the street is whether you can still use your factory seat belt. That depends on you and seat. Skinnier folks will have more issues because the stock belt will rest on the seat before it reaches your body, which creates an unsafe situation. Wearing a harness on the street without a head/neck restraint is a little risky if you get in a high speed crash, because only your head/neck will move with your body pinned in place. I wanted to be able to use the stock 3-point on the street on the way to the track, so avoided seats where the bolsters were overly deep and interfered with the routing of the stock belt.

you can use the lap and anti sub harness, and use the oem over top for the shoulder harness

I've looked at the Ergo since we have one in our shop car, but not sure yet. I have Schroth harness with ASM, which should help out for the street aspect.

I will most likely mount the seat right to the base, so sliders will not be an issue.

When I went looking for racing seats I learned quickly that the expected/average racing driver is a pretty small individual. Another brand to consider is Cobra. At 6'0 ~ 210 I found the Cobra Suzuka Pro Fit GT. In the Cobra lineup the GT is the larger seat. Also note the weight of the Cobra seats are quite good.
