Simplest Track Timer/Telemetry/Data App?
Simplest Track Timer/Telemetry/Data App?
All,
Trying to gauge what the simplest app is - deciding now between Harry's Lap Timer & Track Addict.
Solostorm also has track features, but in general I've found it difficult to use. What I'd like is for an app that will sync camera, gps, and obd2 data, give me overlays & let me transfer the video file to my computer if possible, vs a direct upload from phone. I'll run multiple laps on track, and if possible I'd like to have both the full video overlayed, and be able to parse out an overlay for the fastest lap. I'm 100% amateur, don't need a thousand dollar data system. Just want something simple, hit start/record & the data is captured and video is recorded and synced.
Device: Android
Camera: Go Pro Hero 6
OBD2: Bluetooth OBD2
GPS: Bluetooth, OBDLink MX

I've really liked Harry's. A lot of the people I know really like Solo Storm, but they are mostly AutoX guys and I have yet to see a better app for that. I have a friend that uses Track Addict. It seems to sync well with his phone and an external mic.
I have only used Harry's with my phone, no other cameras. It also seems to sync well with my BT OBD dongle.
I do plan on adding another GoPro (mine is ooold school and doesn't have modern features), so this thread interests me.
Here is a vid I have using Harry's. I didn't have OBD support yet, only using the g-sensor and GPS on the phone.

I know the guy who writes solostorm so Im biased but for AutoX there really isn't a better app. I haven't use it on track but I know he has been working on the time attack and hill climb side of things.
Are you planning on using external sensors for accelerometer and GPS? Phone GPS is going to give you pretty mediocre results compared to a good 10-20 hz system. I would probably pick something that integrated well with external hardware like RaceCapture (what I have to pair with SoloStorm).

Harry's can sync with your GoPro as well.
I recommend Harry's but ONLY if you get an external GPS. The on phone one sucks for this use.
Here is a comparison I did awhile back between the two.
Internal iPhone GPS on left. SkyPro XGPS160 on right.

with harry's, how exactly does it sync to the gopro? I saw a video on youtube where the guy basically records the video with phone, but then replaces the phone video with the gopro video and syncs up the start/end by frame from the video. while not totally difficult, seems a little annoying. would just like everything to be synced and recording properly from the get-go.
With the gopro & harry's, do you just leave the gopro on w/ wifi, connect the phone & app, and then tell the app to start recording and it does so?
Going to plug a former Evo owner (and friend's) app: https://trackattack.io/.

would love to see overlayed videos if you guys have them, and more details about syncing the video from external (gopro, whatever) to the data taken, whether that's a pain or not, involves computer or not, how much effort it is.
harry's doesn't sound too bad, would be nice if it synced to the gopro live (don't know if it easily can or cannot)

went with harry's - initial thoughts: it records time really well with my 10hz QSTARZ gps unit. actually syncing the laps with video is a different story. It somehow still records my cooldown lap as a lap, thus making the actual sync with the laptime nearly impossible, as it goes from the back of the last lap. bizarre
