ugh went to start my car and - not even a click. My battery (a 5lb shorai lithium iron) is dead. It's on the trickle, been charged, but I must have drained it one too many times. Any other lightweight options you guys use?

any of you guys using miata batteries? i'd liek to give this oen a shot:
but not sure about the vent tubes? do we need to connect the vent tubes?

 

I use Stinger batteries (two of my friends own car alarm/audio shops, so I get a discount LOL). My current one has been in the car two or three years, with no problems. I do keep it on the trickle charger, though. Supposedly, it can cycle all the way down and still be good. I refuse to test that theory

 

gotcha. just ordered a yellowtop 51R. I think it's like 25lbs? whatever. Not worth the headache.

 

splitter attachments and mount point pictures as promised. Sorry they a bit late!

so the splitter is on quick release pins onto the brackets u can see plus a couple brackets at the back on the chassis rails. The ones infront of the intercooler are tied together at the moment so they dont hang down but they wont be there obviously once connected.

bumper is held on by 4 quick latches and slides on seperate. The brake ducting goes onto the splitter once installed. And the cut out is where the exhaust is and hangs too low for the splitter

I have a shorai also and im on my 3rd one under warranty. if u let them get down a lil bit on voltage they **** a cell and they are stuffed. even had the auto sparky who sold it to me come out and check all my charging system etc to ensure it wasn my car killing it and everything is perfect they are just junk batteries lol.

They need an under charge cutout built into them so they turn off when they get too low before they fry themselves. def wouldnt buy another one.

 

makes sense. the 4.5-5lbs was a huge draw but not worth the hassle i think. i've got the d51r yellowtop in the car now, it's a little tall but i think it'll suit me better. i thought given the lack of driving the car + it always being on a trickle it'd be ok, but i'll live with a 28lb battery lol i'm not winning any races here

 

Antigravity has their surestart series that does have a low voltage shut off. And added that you can push a button to temporarily override for a start if you let your batt drain. I've been using it for a year or so since I burned my old BatteryTender lithium up by jumping it (yeah, dumbass...). And the battery weighs under 3lbs. With the light weight I was able to just cut up a stock plastic tray to minimal size and use heavy duty zip ties to hold in place. Pretty hard to beat how light that is.

 

yea i had an AGM battery before the lithium but it used to drain and it was heavy asf.

The lithium is fine but u just need to keep it constantly plugged in to the charger on store mode. or unplug it.

Only real time u have issues is if ur at the track with issues and having to crank or start lots.

 

I *think* there is a separate thread on this, but it was myself, Dallas and a couple others going back and forth on the batt topic. After trying many different configs I've settled on the smaller AGM because of the issues/dangers we've all had with Li. So it's kinda wiser to save the $, weight, and dangers elsewhere. Also worth considering - a LOT of the Li and AGM batteries are actually made by only a handful of manufactures and they get rebranded 2 or even 3 times and thus the price goes up 2x or 3x. My bamboozle was with Braille batt which is actually Penn, available at BatteriesPlus for like 1/3 the price, Braille does nothing but add stickers.

The rumor is that Duracell makes the Antigravity batt's and you can find the equivalent one but I haven't looked. Naturally AG is a marketing engine and if you call they'll explain how "their specs" and all that, which is likely BS.

 

Yea i def wouldnt buy another shorai thats for sure i (lol)

I'm still very happy with my PC680 and I just park my car outside even during winter. I just make sure I disconnect every time. I normally get 3years out of them
