I'm sure it wouldn't be. All I meant was CAN like ISO-9141 is standardized, but for example MUT (which rides on either protocol) is proprietary Mitsubishi. CAN data could also be encrypted, not that I would expect that with most aftermarket stuff.

In the Haltech software, you can pick what sensor is what wheel. I love how Haltech has packaged this. Amazing work by them!!

Whilst I understand the pressure is a good thing to monitor, surely the temp is a bit pointless as its not measuring accross the width of the tread which is really the info you need?

Its benefit comes in knowing how pressure will change from cold to hot. Your start pressures will vary depending if its 40deg or 90deg outside, 1st session or 3rd. Knowing inside air temps would take a lot of the guessing game out of it.

Yep. Tire pressures goes up because the air inside the tire heats up. Knowing that temperature can be helpful for planning.

Also, it's just something that standard OEM tire pressure sensors happen to have. They also report G-forces, which is used to estimate rotational speed, which OEM systems use to correlate which sensor is in each tire as you go around corners and such. Neat stuff.

Izze Racing has some neat IR sensors that go inside the tire and read the temperature across the inner rubber of the tire. Very cool concept, but I don't think it's as useful as knowing the outside temperatures at the tire surface. The inside surface is more of a running average of the outer tire temps, but you need to measure the surface temperatures to catch the quick changes that happen in corners.

I guess application is everything? I can see why overall temp and pressure would be handy for you Dallas, getting your tyres in an operating window would be much easier.

The kit above would do the trick for external temps though whilst on the move.

I have the full autosport labs new kit on order (was one of the first to pre-order) just cause I like toys . It'll be plug-n-play with the RaceCapture just gotta figure out how to mount them.

*Newbie walks up to Dallas's pit stall* "Hey man can I ask you about your fenders"

*Dallas cringes because he likes to geek out with people....however* "Sorry, no time, I have 12,900 fields of data to study before my next session"

Lol, kinda true... Im just a nerd that likes toys and pretending I have a real race car.

I wish more local newbies would nerd out with me. Either I intimidate people or they just arent many interested in Evos these days. So many subarus.... Apparently Im in the wrong market

Too many people trying to turn these cars into drag cars or crashing them pretending they're in Fast N Furious. Subarus will always be abundant.

You guys have it good presumably. Chicago I took for granted, there is a large "scene" of evos and subarus. Not to mention an abundance of dynos and shops. I havent seen another evo on the road since I moved to STL. Maybe one or two X's but those arent real evos

If I had the space I'd be in the market for a clean shell to have just in case. (I guess I do but I dont want to leave cars outside)

Yea Haltech rep called me about this system when they were rolling it out. Something id like to play with and its priced really well. just not something ive bothered with yet. As already mentioned it would be a pain for us because i have 4 sets of mounted tyres so id need 4 sets of sensors essentially. or use the valve stem style ones but its just another thing to get in the way.

I have an Alfano tyremonitor 2 tyre gauge and once my crew get the hang of using it it will be just as accurate as long as measurements are taken right away. It stores your cold pressures and then u can compare it to the hot pressure and it saves a history so you can cycle back through it all.

Or you can take 2 seconds to screw a cap on and have a liner graph in your $2500 data logger...just sayin The biggest hurdle this season is determining it's accuracy. I believe it was ~2psi difference from the trusted gauge but I don't exactly recall. It's made a lot easier for those that have 2 valve stems like the NT03's I used to run had...but alas I somehow gave those up for width, and look, and weight lol.

2psi is pretty massive difference in accuracy.

When we engineer the porsche cup cars even .3 or so of a difference is big.

Other big issue id have is im out of channels available for logging cause we log so much other stuff hahaha

Thats disheartening to hear they're only accurate to +/-2psi. I don't even change my tire pressures that much when I make a change. Usually go in .5-1psi increments.
