4/18 Austin, TX Autocross
Texas Spokes had their 3rd AutoX of the season on 4/18 in Austin, TX. It was the 2nd one I could make this year, but the first in my own car since I was breaking in a new clutch for the other event I went to this season and was driving an S2000 for that one.
This was my first AutoX in my car on race tires (Victoracer 245/45-17) and I also had a new alignment (-1.6 camber all around, 0 toe up front, slight toe in inthe rear), so I was a little nervous becuase it felt like a lot had changed. That and I hadn't AutoX'ed my car since last November.
Being the only Evo at the whole event
I tried my best against 5 other AS STis. I got a bit lucky, and managed to swing 2 of 6 in AS with a best time of 54.650, 0.320 seconds behind the class winner. I have the cones to thank for 2nd since 3rd place ran a blistering 53.025+1. The 4th place STi also had his best time, about 54.2xx, lost after his run by a computer crash and he couldn't repeat that in his rerun. He didn't protest because he was only running AS for fun in Treefallen's STi anyways. I know 53's were definitely out there for me, as I felt my last, and best, run was still quite sloppy in at least two places.
Treefallen managed 5th place in his STi with a 56.135. I'm sure after a novice school and a few more events he'll be right up there to help me give our AS favorite, Rafal, a run for his money.
What pleased me the most about the event was that my raw time and PAX time were both 21st out of a field of 105 entries. I normally finish somewhere near or above mid-pack. I think both the race tires and more experience helped with that. It's also nice to know that I feel like I could go even faster and could've been even higher in the group. I guess to be fair though, many of our fastest drivers like Andy Hollis and Erik Strelnieks weren't at the event... but I'll take what I can get!

The third shot is of the right hand turn right after the start, look at that body roll.
