SCDA June 11
Hi Paul,
Sorry to miss you, but I have a wedding thing on Saturday. I will have a novice student to deal with on Friday, but expect to get some worthwhile testing in with the Evo. Won the SCCA National here last weekend in the Z06. We ran a race pace of 59 flat! My bud, Tom Oates has the new T-1 track record at 58.934. Not bad for what is basically a street car. If you talk to Ian Prout, he will fill you in on what fast cars the Evo embarrased on Friday. Say hello to Tommy for me, and if you get a chance, ask him if I can run with the Ferarri's the end of July. That would be a hoot!
Cheers,

I'll chat with Ian on Saturday and I'll let Tommy know about July's Event.
Peace
Wish I had time for the full write-up on this event, but I have to get the vette ready for this weeks National. The Evo turned a few heads at LRP. Still have'nt got the handling completely sorted, and no big motor mods yet, but the car is doing consistent 1:01's here when I get some clear track. My novice student decided driving was not for him, so I had the whole day to test. Will write a full report when I get time. Short version is, front LSD still working great, car still understeers at the limit but is getting better, Kumho's do not like 235 degrees. Met Flybyevo and took him out for a session. He's a big fellow, so when we first started out I missed a gear when my elbow made contact with him. Was happy I did'nt zing the motor. Perhaps he can chime in here. All in all, a great day. Got to love being waived by by a Z06 making 512 at the wheels.

Good stuff Bill!! Some of the guys are still talking about your "White Evo" on Saturday. This guys are really impressed with the Evo's. But Evo plus a good driver like you and it's game over for most. 1:01s is smokin dude. The best I could muster on Saturday was 1:08 then I found the traction limit on my Bridgestone 050. I needs some R tires. RA1's maybe??
BTW, I gave Tommy your message.

Hi,
I think I can get this car into the one minute and change area with the right tires and alignment. I was running 255 Victoracers all the way around on 17x9.5 fronts and 17x8.5 rears. Am working on fitting Hoosier 275 fronts and 245 rears to further combat the understeer. Tried disconnecting the front swaybar, but the tires just roll over and the front left outside temp hit 235. I guess strut cars need bars. Seems to me these cars like stiff swaybars and relatively soft springs. Currently, I am running 9kg springs front and 8kg rear. I am going to pull the front coilovers and re-valve for a 6kg spring. The car needs about half a degree more negative camber up front for a total of 3 1/2 degrees. Still running 0 toe but may go a little toe out front and rear. Will be running the car again on June 24, after I return from Beaver Run.

Yes, I instruct when called upon. Don't know about an Evo only event. Is there a Northeast Evo club? Generally, car clubs can get marque-exclusive track dates. A search of the web will net you lots of available dates with many different organizations.

Hey Bill, doesn't Ian host corporate events? Maybe we get some info. on doing a day at Limerock for our EVO-NY club. What do you think?

Wtz, in two weeks I'm running my new evo at LRP. It's my first time in the EVO(usually run a porsche 944 turbo) My times at LRP are in the 1:05 range in the 944. Any must do's before taking the evo to the track?? I've seen you at LRP before and never got the chance to speak to you.
Hi Howie,
Alignment. Max the negative camber up front. By rotating the concentric bolt you ought to be able to get about -1.8. Run 1 degree negative in the rear and 0 toe front and rear. Run competition brake fluid and pads. I use Motul 600 and Ferrodo pads, DS3000 front and DS2500 rear. Bed them in properly. DOT-R tires would be nice but you don't need them to have fun. If you run the stockers, put enough air in them. Torque your wheels to 100 ft/lbs. Have fun!

Torque all passengers down also.... Bill I don't know how you ran so fast with my extra large in the passenger seat. So sorry on that downshift I didn't mean to get in the way. Thank you for the ride. I was so excited that when my turn came I did some trailblazing just after Big Bend. I was given extra points for the piroette.
Riding with Bill was quite an expierence. The first thing I noticed is how fast the corners seem to come. Tires and car (and passenger) were near the limit as far as I could tell. The only time I noticed Bill on the brakes was at the end of the straight. My head almost went through the windshield. Basically I held on as hard as I could and still moved around like crazy. I would say, I have nothing to base this on though, that Bill was over 1 g around the turns and close to 1.8 g's slowing down at the end of the straight.
Just a side note. This was my fourth event in the Evo. I attended LRP on 4/3, Watkins Glen on 5/3, NHIS on 5/31. I really had nothing to compare how I did at any of the track days. Yes I had my share of getting point bys. I was able to determine some laptimes from my in car video. Driving with Bill really showed me how someone who knows how to race will drive. Something for me to work on because I need alot of help.
Thanks again Bill.
