one thing you guys should know. i currently have my camera mounted on my rollbar and I have a problem. the lighting difference during daylight between outside and inside of the car is at a very high contrast and the cameras are not able to compensate.

the camera captures the interior good but the outside view is way too bright. to the point that its kinda washed out. thats why i am moving my camera closer to the front windshield so it gets the outside view only. I will be adding addtional camers later on.

another option was to get a camera with a smaller field of view so it only gets the windshield area. if you are using a camcorder, you should be able to zoom onto the windshield so the interior isn't visible much.

I use an in-car computer with video capture and no moving parts ( 2 of those 4GB compact flash cards one for the OS one for data) but same difference as the VCR except the VCR is cheaper... I record in divx and can record 2 streams at 30fps for 2 hours..

The difference is I have a TurboXS utec and OBD-II scanner and I have an app that records the data, and a timestamp when recording started, so I can correlate points in time with the video.. I'm working on a VB app using directX that will capture data with the data already overlaid over the video..

I Do not know if anything I've done is SCCA legal.. I have done this only on the street and still have to perminently move the setup from my Malibu to the Evo..

I just built a fairly simple mount using about $8's worth of stuff I got at home depot (screws and al strip). It was pretty easy to put together and works fairly well. The biggest issue I have now is vibration when the car is moving.

The vibration isn't surprising considering how I built the mount. It is rock solid so every little wiggle in the car goes right through the camera. I'll build another one later and use some rubber grommets between the pieces to help isolate some of the vibration.

Right now I'm working on transfering the clip from the camera. If all goes well I'll have it on my server later. Not anything to exciting, just a quick drive through the 'hood.

what are you guys using for microphone and where did you mount them at? any suggestions?

my VCR accpets RCA only. i am sure most mics will be the small headphone/computer sound card jack type but they should have the proper adapter at radioshack.

I edit the sound out for mine, but if you use a mic, I recommend the dashboard and maybe using a wind guard to reduce the rushing air sound.

In my case I used the mic on the camera. It picked up the sound pretty well (have Cake playing in the car). My camera also has an external microphone, but I've not used it yet. Maybe I'll try it out at the next autocross.

Once I get things going I'll probably remove the sound from the video and just laying my own sound track (Simpsons theme song seems right).

My mount cost a whole $8 to build. And I got to build it! Sort of the hacker thing: yeah I can go buy it, but it is more fun to build it yourself. Although the UCM has some feature I may copy in to the next version of my mount.

Finally got the file converted over and on my web-server. take a look: http://www.guerillaprogrammer.com/vi..._testdrive.wmv

The biggest PITA I had was converting the huge MPEG file from DAZZLE's tool to WMA. It turns out there is a tool on Microsoft's web-site that will do it. When I did the conversion I striped the sound and then used Movie Maker to lay in some Beastie Boys.

Can't wait to try this out at an autocross.

BTW: my mount is essentially the same as Urban Knight's. Notice the vibration? Its because the camera is essential bolted to the car's frame. A Cadaliac wouldn't be as bad, but why would you want to video a drive in a cadaliac?

This is the camera I used for the video in this post.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=92870

It has a beautiful wide angle and because it is not the recording device you can mount the camera somewhere that is shock-proof resulting in much higher quality video.

This is what I have specifically.
Chase cam -- Bullet Cam

It is what I have been looking for for years. Truely amazing!

I used this one for a year, then the suction device broke. Considering the price I paid, this thing is a piece of junk.
