Lancer WRC program in jeopardy

Make sure you watch WRC on SPEED, because soon there may be no more Mitsu WRC team.....

from Autosport.com:

" - Mitsubishi boss admits doubts -

-- Lancer WRC programme in jeopardy --

A crunch meeting early next week will determine the fate of Mitsubishi's struggling WRC programme - and even the team's top boss admits that withdrawal is a distinct possibility.

The Lancer WRC04 has been uncompetitive since the team returned to full-time WRC competition at the start of this season. Its best result has been sixth on its debut, and it has been plagued with glitches in its transmission.

Sources indicate that Mitsubishi management in Japan might even decide to pull the plug on the programme before the Lancers end up being embarrassed on 'home soil' in the country's first ever WRC round in early September.
Mitsubishi Motor Sports boss Sven Quandt admitted to Autosport that the programme was under threat. "This week is a crucial week for Mitsubishi's participation in the championship," said Quandt, who is said to be fighting to keep the WRC effort alive.

"Pulling out of the championship is one possibility that Japan is looking at. Discussions have been going on for 10 to 15 days already but the situation is changing by the hour. We expect to have a decision by Monday or Tuesday of next week."

Keep checking autosport.com for further developments."

They said right at the start of the season that they do not intend to win and that this year will be a 'testing the water' period for them. Now they're getting pissy because they aren't winning? Why the 180?

i believe they shoudn't have build a dedicated WRC car but instead just modified the successful evo7 car to look like the evo8 and just improve on it... i always say, if it aint broken dont fix it

compared to the puegot 206 or the citron, the EVO is too big, too heavy and too slow. That's why it was retired in the first place.

I can understand their frustration, the lancer WRC car sucks in a big way.

I hope they kill the car and not the entire WRC program

…this is what you end up with when you try to field a car with little or no testing and development time, a screwed up waste of time and money.

Drop the WRC car and focus on assisting the numerous independent Evo teams in Group N (and other levels and forms of racing) around the world and Mitsubishi would find they suddenly have a whole bunch of new fans and supporters.
