Props to Johng316. I used the offer he provided on this thread and was able to purchase my Evo VIII (sunroff and carbon fiber wing) for: 29,320.54 (w/o taxes & tags). A fantastic deal! No one here in the Tampa area could touch that. Found the car at Augusta Much props to Rick who pulled off a great deal for me. Picking the car up Sat. Should be a fun ride home

Wow! This is cool. Congratulations on the good deals, guys! Hopefully, you can use your savings to finance a nice stereo system or performance upgrades.

I'm glad the system worked for you.

Happy driving!

Thats cool except for one thing, if no saleman got the deal and the manager was greedy and kept it,you took a paycheck out the hands of a salesman who may have needed it and would have takin care of you.I ask you guys to do one thing before you buy a car.put your selves in the salesman shoes,*** a matter of fact try car sales, you will be suprsed, that 1300.proft on comssion is only 260. but some salesman never got the oportunity!Think about it!

Specialist,

Out of courtesy, I offered the same deal FIRST to the salesman who gave me my test drive. I gave him 30 minutes to accept the deal or I would go find someone who would accept my reasonable offer. He turned me down. Within 2 hours, I had two other dealers willing to accept my offer. The salesman had a fair chance.

I would never go over a salesman to cut him out of the deal if he had time and service invested in me. It just ain't cool. But the fact is, I don't see the reason to pay for service I don't need. If I'm going to a new dealership where no salesman has invested time in me, I'm going straight to the Sales Manager with my offer. I haven't received any service from a salesman there, so I don't pay for that service. Add in the sales commission that the sales manager must pay, and my reasonable, slim-profit offer becomes unreasonable pretty quickly.

Look, when you call information for a phone number, the automated attendant offers to connect you automatically for an additional 75 cent charge after they give you the number. If you've written the number down, you can hang up, dial yourself, and save 75 cents. Some people want to pay out unnecessary money, but I'm not one of them. While you should not cut out a salesman who has given you service, it's perfectly OK to sidestep a salesman rather than pay for service you don't need and HAVE NOT RECEIVED.

Car salesmen have dug their own graves by gouging, pressuring, and cheating customers for years. I see a trend in avoiding the salesman that is growing. Lots of people are buying their cars now from online vendors. Soon, new-car salesmen may become a thing of the past. I don't think I'd be heartbroken if that happened. Believe me, the salesman that might've missed a commission on me is more than making up for it with some other, less educated "customer."

Good luck in your purchases!

John G

I'm going to give that method a try this week to see what happens. I'll drive to NJ, PA or VA to pick a car up if its under MSRP.

I in some way see your point, but again, walk in the shoes of the salesman, had a guy say he went to one of my competetor and they offered hm an evo 500.over invoice,so I matched, cool sold a car and hopfully made a friend,he told what store" he was at" to keep him happy, they had the color he wanted so I called to get the car----the dealer never had the car and told them the same thing about us,my point being, do sales man lie, some yes,do customer lie, some yes.less educated are the ones who think there over educated, more than making up for n commision again walk in the shoes and see the otherside--there will allways be a need for new car saleman,it will be the young people that will change the buisness,if you let them

Anybody else send email or a fax to your local dealerships about a price and they ignore your request completely? Then when you call they say that they will only discuss the car if I come to the showroom. What gives? I don't want to waste either of our time going through that method so why not just give me the damn qoute outright? I have to go see friends in Pensacola this summer so maybe I will just buy the damn car in FL.

N/A,

I'd suggest you NOT do e-mail. It doesn't work very well. If you're not doing this already, I suggest you try the following:

Call the dealer.
Tell the receptionist you need to know the name of the sales manager who is there TODAY. Tell her you're going to fax an offer to buy a car to him, and you need to make sure it gets to him.

Fax at least 10 dealers. 20 if you can find them... BUT, make sure you only fax the Sales Manager, and address it to him by name. Make sure you send it to the fax machine that is closest to him. Make sure you send it on a Tueday, Wednesday or Thursday (their slowest days).

Don't call them. Wait for them to call YOU. If you call them, they'll give you the line. IF they give you that line about coming down to discuss, tell them you don't intend to buy your car that way. You intend to buy one TODAY from the first dealer who will accept your offer, and if he wasn't accepting your offer, you'll find another dealer who will; no time wasted.

Most Sales Managers will respond well to this approach as long as your offer is reasonable. BUT, make them deal with you in your way, not theirs. They know their negotiating leverage is improved (and yours is reduced) when you invest time driving down there. Keeping things over the phone gives you all the leverage. The trick is contacting enough dealers to find the few that are willing to sell a car to gain some volume. Some dealers are motivated by volume and some are not.

I highly recommend you spend $29 on the fightingchance package. Read this package before trying this for best results. You'll make the $29 back in spades. http://www.fightingchance.com

Good luck,

John G
