Latest LED Mod - Blue AEM Uego

I just finished this up this morning. Forgive the crappy pics, as all I have with me at the moment is my iPhone. Hopefully I will have some better pics up tonight.

::UPDATE::

I just uploaded a video to youtube and included some new pictures.

Nice... could you go into a little detail how you made the switch to blue LED? part number, etc?

Video uploaded.

Sorry, but I will not be providing a parts list. This isn't exactly a DIY.

Not much feedback. Is it the color or does no one give a **** about the color of their wideband. I could probably do any color under the rainbow. What do you guys want to see?

I want to see how you did this cus I def want it.
Is it really that hard that you don't even want to list part numbers?

I think most people have the stock VIII/IX gauges and the red is close to the factory orange and the guys with the X's have red lighting on the nav and stock headunit. It is still an awesome modification, you might get more props in the audio forum.

I am offering this conversion for $80 if you supply the AEM Uego. Time to complete is about 2 hours, and I can have it back the same day. The AEM unit I have already converted is also for sale.

The reason I don't want to list a part number is because it took days to find the correct replacement part. I had to find a part with the exact same pin configuration, and diode orientation, all from a new manufacturer because the original manufacturer of the stock red displays doesn't make blue displays.

On top of that, I've had over 1000 hours of soldering time, and the soldering job for this project was VERY difficult to do while keeping the board intact, clean and not destroying some of the components or leads.

Also, in the coming weeks I will be offering full led conversions for all lamps, interior and exterior. I will probably become a low level sponsor here on the forums.

I spent the last 7 years on my350z.com, some of those years as a sponsor doing LED work. Here is a link to my thread history. Feel free to take a look through there and check out some of the projects I've completed. Granted, the quality of work was choppy when I was starting out at 18 years old, but I now have the tools and experience to produce professional level products that will last as long as the leds do. Keep an eye out this summer for full headlight and taillight retrofits with sequential turn signals, etc from me.

I've seen a lot of your work on the my350z forums in the past and it looked great. I would have wanted a color change but the defi's match the interior pretty well as does my innovate db99 wideband so it's not worth the hassle.

Thanks! I'm glad to know my work spans more than one platform.

I agree, and most people feel the same way. In about 3 weeks, I'll post up pictures of the full interior conversion I'm working on atm. I just can't stand the orange/red.

And btw, I've successfully converted Defi Gauges with the exact same brightness and even color distribution.

totally understand. 80$ is kinda high though. im sure its hard work but maybe later on. i currently have blue led key ring, hvac panel, cig lighter ring, and overlay on my cluster but i hate the overlay. do you make led's for the cluster? i would so buy that in a heart beat. i love leds..i will prolly buy all your led conversions once you start selling them so keep me updated.

It's not really the case of "making leds" for the gauge cluster. The problem is going from a cluster with a system in place designed to accurately disperse light from a hand full of bulbs, to designing a system that will evenly and accurately disperse light from a number of leds. You have to consider multiple areas, but I can't STAND uneven lighting. It really annoys me, so I make sure that the lighting is 100% even. That's a very difficult task when trying to design a conversion system from scratch. You can't simply drop led bulbs into the place of the stock bulbs and call it a day. Hot spots galore. I will be utilizing flexible led strips and a variety of diffusers to get the lighting perfect.

One thing I haven't figured out is how to get the bulb out of the key ring. Any pointers on that?

yeah it was a pain... i did it a long time ago so kinda fuzzy on it. its on the top of the ring. it locks in by twisting it. i think i used a flat head to spin it then pulled it out with tweezers. not much room so it took some time

do post up when you have any led conversions, i will buy buy buy
