you may be able to get away with zip ties

That is such BS! I doesn't say anywhere in the laws HOW it should be attached to the vehicle, only that is should be on the front most part of the vehicle. Another reason for me to increase my hatred for bacon, not the swine kind.

Agreed......I have never run a front license plate on any of my cars since I've had my drivers license. Don't plan on starting now. I have never even ran a license plate in the front windshield either.

Not that it makes it right, but how many corvettes do you see not running a front license plate? Pretty much all of them. I highly doubt they will start running front license plates either.

Also, if you place your license plate in the front window, it might trigger a cop to think about the new law and the fact that you don't have the license plate on the front of the car and pull you over. But if you didn't place the license plate in the front window, the cop may not even notice you not having a front license plate to begin with.

Plus, who wants a slice n dice frisbee flying around in their car during a wreck.

from what I've seen most high end cars and sports cars don't run front plates. i think it will be asking a lot for people to drill holes in their cars like that. I have the oem bracket in my garage. I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or not. It ruins the front end of the X.

I completely agree. I wish they would just make the plate out of stick on vinyl and make them thinner like the Euro plates so we could just stick it on our front beam or on the side.

I ran in to this problem about a year ago. I got a warning for no front plate and he said next time he saw me I would be in "big trouble".

So rather than drill my bumper for screws, I figured out how to zip-tie my plate to the front bumper just above the intercooler opening. It doesn't look too bad.

I'll put up some pictures tomorrow showing how I did it for those interested.

the thing that is different now about front license plate laws, is that the laws were re-worked to specifically state where it should be on the front of your car. up until now the law has been objective, which is why people could talk their way out of it, if it was on their dashboard. So I think things like that won't fly so much anymore, now that the law is specific. I do like the zip-tie idea tho. Sadly, I drilled a mount for the plate in my bumper a while ago just to avoid the trouble ( I already have to deal with crap from cops for my underglow, much less a front plate too haha)

JDW: I totally agree about the corvettes. LIke porsches, vettes, vipers, many BMWs, all those cars never have front plates and I'll bet they don't get hastled for it. Even my dad's infiniti doesn't come with a front plate and he's never had an issue. I think cops just see some sexy sports car with a big spoiler with no front plate and go from there. it sucks, but I don't know what will make it change :/

i'm just going to take my chances without one. I've been looking at hundreds of pictures of EVO X's and it completely kills the aggressiveness of the front end. I just can't do it.

maybe after a few tickets. i'm looking at myplates to see if I can find something that wouldn't look to bad on PB. I'm undicided.

FTP!! But really if you don't want a ticket put the plate on if you like paying your attorneys keep it off. Personally I'll pay my attorneys long before I'll pay the government.

Ok here is what I did to mount the plate and it requires 2 small bolts and NO DRILLING OF THE BUMPER.

You do, however, have to drill 2 small holes in the license plate but that's no biggie right?

1) Take the front bumper off.

2) Take the plate and drill a small hole at each side of the plate about 2 3/8 inches from the top (see picture below for hole locations)

3) Put the bolt through each hole in the plate and through the holes of the mesh in the center of the bumper and put a washer and nut on the back side - make sure it's straigt and even on both sides - tighten but not too tight or you'll warp the plate. Use a second nut if you want to lock it on.

4) Put the bumper back on.

NOTE: Instead of bolts, you could use zip ties which could possibly be accomplished without removing the bumper.

I know it's not the most beautiful thing but it's firmly attached, it's not blocking the intercooler, it's not off to one side, and you don't have to drill the bumper. Best of all it's legal so it'll keep the cops off your case.
