To put things another way, Tom, would you let someone pay you $20 and take out your car for an hour unchaperoned? Hell no. But if you were there to make certain they behaved themselves, perhaps you would.

If anyone has looked at the cost of renting an exotic like this, here's what you could expect:
1) Deposit of $2500
2) 24 hour rental fee of $1500-1800
3) rental fee includes 50 miles, and a fee of $.25-$.50 per mile after that

$150 to play around in their exotic for 45 minutes with a nanny is really a pretty good deal if driving a Ferrari is something you'd like to do. Unless you have a friend with one, this is the best deal I could imagine someone getting.

First off they want $150 bucks per 45 min chaparoned...
I checked out several places that all want right at $1000 per day un-chaparoned.

Second they expect you to have your OWN full coverage insurance. Its a rental so its your insurance not thiers. While I agree with you that most people dont buy the appropriate amounts of coverage, ie the state minimums, if you dont have solid coverage you must buy thier add on policy... which is expensive about $100 extra just for the hour. Less than 2% of people that have auto policies have the maximums of 300/500/300 that most reputable carriers do offer.

If you can really get on the thing.... whats the point? If I cant really jump on the gas, take some turns, smell the rubber....I might as well go play with my kids matchbox version.

same thing can be said for people who buy evos that never leave the street. a lancer can do the same thing for half the price (and it even has an almost identical interior).

A Lancer can't drive in a circle, dodge cones, and go in a straight line for 1/4 mile?

I would love to take my evo to the track and some day I will. I just cant afford the track insurance.

Taking a car to the track, that still has a note attached, without the insurance is like sharing a hypodermic needle or playing russian roulett.

kelly had posted insurance links to companys that do it for HPDE events. it wasn't that bad at all if i remember. obviously no company is going to insure a race car (or at least at something we can afford).

and on a side note, i ran mine plenty of times out there when i still had a lien. i never took crazy risks, and still had tons of fun.

Yeah I checked out several companies. Since I sell insurance I kinda knew where to look, the best price from a reputable company was 1 percent of the value per day. My Evo is brand new.. just now a year old. Excluding what I have spent on upgrades I still owe 30K. So to be honest Im scared to death to risk that kind of money for a bit of fun. If if I dont take risks and am careful what if the idiot rich guy driving the Viper plows into me at 80? No coverage...

Even if Im driving on a back country road at say.... 160 and dont manage to kill myself..my insurance will cut me a check, prolly cancel my ***....but at least I dont have a huge financial loss.
