Going E85?
Going E85?
Hey fellow ntec members i am really considering going e85 but the nearest place is 30 miles
does anyone know if i could maybe buy this by the barrell or any other solution or am i going to have to stay on 93???
I use map switching. I have an accessport, but doing it with opensource (ED Tune) is simple too. All you have to do to switch from one fuel to the other is drive until your tank is REALLY close to empty, then go to the gas station, park at the pump, fill up with the new fuel, and switch to your mapping for the other fuel before you restart the engine. I believe with opensource tunes, you switch maps by pressing a certain combination of buttons (like radio controls, hazard lights, turn signals, etc) in a certain order. Then drive carefully (out of boost if possible) for about the first half-tank of the new fuel. Then you're ready to go! I'm about 45 miles from the nearest E-85 station, so I run 93 most of the time, but when I go get E-85, I take five 5 gallon gas cans, and buy a full tank, so I end up being able to refill my tank from home twice after I run through the first one. That lasts me long enough for a few weeks of fun, so it's definitely worth it.

Only the 03/04 has the intercooler sprayer switch. It's very easy on the X, just hold down the cruise control button for a few seconds. For the X, this is available in TephraV1 (ECUFlash) or on the Accessport with Cobb's beta Tephra ROMs. They have it on a few 08's already and I should have it on my '10 fairly soon.

Kevin did a nice map switch for me. Its an external little switch with red led light. I run the tank low, flip the switch, fill up with e85 and I'm done. Same for switching back to 93.
If you dont have a barrell get 4 five-gallon plastic fuel cans. They fit right on the floor and trunk.

KevinD picked up a few of them somewhere, they are the blue plastic 55 gallon type. I'm sure that you can get them at any shop that sells race fuel. They will also have portable pumps to get it out of the barrel... It might seem like a hassle until you take that first ride on e85, amazing!

. It's really worth it to me. I love it.
