New to Evos and TX
New to Evos and TX
Hello All,
Name is Faez, just moved to Dallas, TX from Chicago in June, just bought my first Evo this past weekend on the 10th. Love every thing about it (except the non-dsm pricing on parts!). I've owned 4 previous AWD 1g (a and b) DSMs and currently still own 1 2g FWD DSM. Got a few crappy pictures of it and was insanely riced out, so had to pull most of the stickers, etc. off. I've included some pics. But glad to see such a large community and the wealth of knowledge!

Thanks for the welcomes guys, definitely excited to own and start this Evo project (Added pics here).
I posted this question in the tires forum but I think local guys can be of more help:
"I just recently moved to Dallas from Chicago in June and have no ideas how winters are. The evo is my dd and wondering if I can get away with summer tires or if I should think about all-season tires. I'm thinking about Sumitomo HTR Z III for $133 at Tirerack (Max Performance Summer) or Continental ExtremeContact DWS for $159 for All-Season (Ultra High Performance All-Season). Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, especially from those familiar with Dallas winters!"

you can run summer tires year round here. there is maybe 1-2 days a year where it will be to icey for summer tires, but you'll find out that the entire metroplex essentially shuts down when that happens (nothing short of chains will help cause its glazed ice).
the two tires that are most common are the donlop z-1 star specs or the hankook RS3 tires. both tires are great for autocross and track days, although i have mounted both of the tires you mentioned before for evo people. if you need someone to mount them for you, give me a shout.

Summer tires year-round here. When you need anything else everything shuts down anyway as KevinD mentioned so you won't need to leave the house. The HTR Z III is a great daily-driver tire; I went through 3 sets on my IX and had no complaints. I currently have the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo on my X and am happy with them as well. I'd rank them equivalent so buy whichever is cheaper.
Hope to see you at our meet tomorrow night!

Hey! Welcome to the club. There is never a shortage of Evo (or car) related events going on. Road racing, AutoX, dyno days, monthly meets, etc...
Good job on de-ricing that car. Those stickers were pretty bad. And what is up with the blue head and tail light tint? Yellow I understand. But blue
?
