Taxes due
Buy a house to save on taxes and get some roommates to pay your mortgage for yoou and use all the extra money to buy a 2nd evo and put all your money into evos.

I'm fine that you disagree, Sean, but the reasoning is sound. Acree's goal was to manage his tax burden- quickest and easiest thing to do is minimize the amount of income that is subject to taxation. Savings does not accomplish this.
I'll also point out that my memory of the crap the market went through is just fine, thanks. I upped my contributions when it was falling so that I could take advantage of the increased buying power of my $ in the market. Some of them are still down, but chances are they'll recover, and I'll be in a much better place when they do.

I'd just caution against robbing peter to pay paul... in this case locking money into a 401k when you don't have a safety net. As with all things in life... moderation and a broad vision.
But I agree with you... just watch them falling knifes. Of course all of this is coming from someone without access to a 401k for the last 7-8 years... so I've had to be more creative in some of my strategies.
I'm only getting $35 back this year : (
Enough for a burrito and a box of bullets I guess! Something tells me I should contribute more to my 401k but my company doesn't match at all so I'd like to sve it instead

You absolutely should be contributing to your 401(k). The biggest benefit is that you contribute pre-tax dollars- every dollar you put into your 401(k) reduces your tax liability.
