Evo Newb in Pittsburgh w/ ??'s

Hello everyone! I'm in the Monroeville area (Penn Trafford) and I am negotiating w/ a dealer to buy an Evo IX, so I look forward to meeting some of you guys very soon.

Is there anything I should look for when I purchase this car? I know I had an 05 STI and wish I would have made the dealer do an alignment before I even took the car...do you recommend the same on the Evo? What is a proper alignment spec?

What equipment do I really need and what don't I need - SSL? no SSL? Right now, I am really leaning toward an IX without SSL because I don't need a 6-speed again, I will probably put coilovers on anyway, and even "upgraded" factory stereos never impress me. I would like to have the sunroof, but not worth the extra 3K to me.

Are there any local shops to go to or stay away from for upgrades?

Once I take delivery, if anyone wants to meet up and show me the ropes with this car, I would really appreciate it and would love to talk to anyone.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you guys on the street!

Denny

Yeah, definately getting a 9 - I'm just not sure what level or options. I can't decide if I want it with or without the SSL package. I don't think I want the MR though - just not enough there (in my opinion only) to justify another 5K.

It all depends on what you are gonna use it for. Track or a daily driver? The IX SSL doesnt come with the 6 Speed only the MR does. SSL isnt for the stereo as much as it is the HID's and sunroof. As far as an alignment goes...if you need an alignment leaving the dealership then something is wrong. Once you decide to buy and you get a final price...bounce it off of South Coasts price (look for special may pricing in search) and see if you are really getting a good deal. Good luck on the purchase...Drive safe

Well if you like leather, decent sound package, and a sunroof then go for it? I have an SSl 04 and I love the leather seats, makes the interior look so much better imo...but the IX std seats are nice, no more of that blue center section...never cared for that. The sunroof is great to me because I dont race that much and for a dd the sunroof is a nice option for summer drives, plus the gf likes it ....and the sound while not top notch is pretty good, I listen to mostly all rock music and it works well for me....only thing I want to do is upgrade the deck for ipod capabilities....I think either way you will be happy, you just have to decide if you can live with or without those "luxury" items....For me im getting older and I like having those few little extra items

one more thing.....the HID's kick major ***, I couldnt live without them now that I have them!

Anyway good luck! see you around Pittsburgh.....

Unless you're dead set on where you're getting the IX, I'd shop around a bit. Baierl out near Wexford sells them for pretty much sticker price. I was going to get mine there, until I went out to Medina, OH. I've had mine for about 2 weeks now, and it was the best purchase I've ever made.

I didn't see a point in the SSL, because I needed the extra head room (so no sunroof) and I'll upgrade the stereo myself when it comes time.

I dealt with Rob @ Medina. Same thing here, we bs'd a lot and it was definitely worth the trip out there. Wasn't that hard to find either.

Sidenote - Everyone seems to talk about how hard it is to test drive an Evo, but Baierl and Medina both threw me the keys and let me take them for spins. Granted I'm 26 and probably look like I have my act together, but I recommend both places if you're looking to test drive one.

Hey Tom can I get an autograph? When I was growing up I always wanted a mustache as full as yours, I heard chics dig em.....way to go haha

Yeah I want to see the BR as well.....I really wanted one, but with school loans and all that living on your own expenses I would have to save for atleast a 5k-7k dp to get my payments into affordable territory without breaking the bank month to month....which would have taken me like 2 years, so I opted for the used 04...sometimes im like damn I should have waited and got the IX but in the end I have an evo and its a blast to ownand I didnt have to wait! I have already started my mod process and will be slowly adding on Buschur parts as I save money so I guess it worked out anyway....maybe in a few years I will pick up a good used 06 MR or just mod the crap out of mine....15k to expired warranty!

welcome to evom man. glad to hear you're getting an evo.

i got mine from biondi, good sales staff, but dicks in the service department.

as far as the ssl package goes, i just got the regular gsr. i didn't want a sunroof at all, and the 3k they charge seemed a little much for different seats and a louder stereo.

my alignment was ok off the lot, but most importantly, make sure you check your tire pressure. mine was a little low from the dealer and caused some pretty aggressive wear on the front tires.

other than that, enjoy the car man. summer is coming up soon and i am sure you'll get to meet all of us at the meets.

Yea I picked up a BR350 from Medina. I absolutely love it. They worked with me on the price and I was pretty happy with it, although we got to Medina at about 2pm and didn't leave with the car until 5:30 I opted for the br350 because I could get all the parts and modding included in the financing, which was a bonus. Plus, I get to keep my warranty, which is always nice.

I'm going to try and show up for a little bit for the D&B meet thing tomorrow, if I can make it. I have some people coming in from out of town later Saturday night, so we'll see how that goes.
