Tint/exhaust tickets in NJ

UPDATE ON POST #24...please read

What's up guys...got two tickets from a bored cop

as far as tint goes...court appearance in mandatory

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/NJ/

is that accurate?

because then I only have to remove the front windows and that would be awesome

&

I have a Megan racing DP and test pipe w/ a turboxs catback

is it likely they'll have a decibel level tester present to test my exhaust?

if so do you think I could get by with just the stock cat?

or will I need the catback on there too?

Thanks,
Jeff

your exhaust ticket was because it was too loud or because of emissions?

he said it was "too loud"

what exactly do I need to do are they going to use a db meter at court?

anyone have experience with this in NJ?

I have a test pipe so I know throwing a cat in would be a good idea...will the stocker bolt up to my megan racing d/p and turboxs catback?

If you have time maybe you can order a 3in cat or have one fabricated at a muffler shop because I don't think the stock will fit as is. With the way some exhaust systems have their own bends in the piping...you can't really tell. All you can do is match up the stock cat and go from there.

In NJ you can't replace the cat unless it is defective or there is no cat on the car. This is supposed to be done by a shop that reports has to keep records of why it was done so even a high flow cat is not legal. You are not to replace anything from the cat forward. Put it back to stock for the inspection.

As far as the tint goes. Get a doctor's note. Easiest way to get out of it and thrown out. Past experience in Wayne for tints. :P

I would put the stock DP and Cat on for the fact illegal to remove stock cats in NJ and the DP so that they can hear that it is not as loud. As far as a db meter it is possible but very unlikely. With it being mandatory for a court apperance for tint, it depends on the township that gave you the ticket and if it was your first time for the ticket. My last time I received a ticket for tint I had to go to court but it was like my 4th or 5th time. As far as DB level it is really up to the cop. The only way you could get away with it was if it you had a certificate saying that your exhaust is 50 state legal. Mainly cops write the ticket thinking that you won't contest the tickets and just pay them. If you want to have tint on your front windows and have it ligit is to get a doctors prescription go to DMV and they will tell you were to get it tinted and give you a certificate saying you are aloud to have the tint on your front windows. Hopefully this helps if any other questions just post em up and someone will help you out.
